Lives of ethnic minority people in An Binh change a lot

After 10 year-implementation, provincial Project on settled agriculture and fixed residence has contributed to improving the lives of ethnic minority people in Phu Giao district’s An Binh commune.

From a sound policy

Vo Van Loi, Chairman of An Binh communal People’s Committee said that the whole commune is now home to 231 households with 940 people, including 940 ethnic minority ones. In 2005, provincial Committee for Ethnic Affairs proposed provincial People’s Committee to grant 200 hectares of land in Tam Lap commune to ethnic minority people in An Binh commune, aiming to help them develop production and stabilize their lives.

After 10-year implementation, the project has helped many ethnic minority people in An Binh commune rise up in life. This is actually a sound policy of the Party and State, contributing to stabilizing the lives of ethnic minority people and the local order-security. According to statistics, there are now 114 households in the commune granted farming land under the project.

Well-off ethnic minority households

Kim Minh, an ethnic minority resident in An Binh commune’s Nuoc Vang hamlet said  that thanks to one hectare of farming land granted from the project, he and his family has so far kept their mind on production and stabilized their lives.

The family of Kim Thi Nguyen, 48, in An Binh commune’s Tan Thinh hamlet is also one of ethnic minority households rising up out of poverty and getting rich, due to farming land granted from the project. Currently, her family lives in a spacious house and secures a well-off life from rubber trees. She said that this result came from the attention and support of the Party and State for ethnic minority households, especially poor ones.

Many other ethnic minority households in the commune have till now risen up out of poverty, thanks to the State’s policy on the granting of farming land. Mr.Loi said that since being granted farming land together with preferential policies on loan, many ethnic minority households in the commune have developed production models, rising up out of poverty and getting rich. More importantly, their lives have got more stable, significantly contributing to the local policy on national great unity.
