Under the Program on agricultural restructuring towards raising added values for sustainable development and the Decision No.3265/QD-UBND of provincial People’s Committee on approval of the project on urban agricultural development in the southern region of Binh Duong province for the 2015-2020 period, the province’s agricultural sector has reached positive changes, significantly contributing to the local new-style rural construction cause, improving the lives of locals.
Hi-economic efficiency
Over the past time, there was a vigorous change for the local agricultural sector’s fields restructured. For cultivation, many households, farmsteads have been proactive to apply sci-tech advancements into production, bringing hi-economic efficiency, being line with each locality’s feature.

Accordingly, there are now more than 115 and 260 hectares of pomelo and orange under exploitation with the average productivity of 15-20 tons and 40-60 tons per hectare per year with the average income of around VND600million and VND1.2billion per hectare per year, respectively. Over the past time, provincial Plant Protection sub-Department also developed a model of growing safe vegetables on a total area of 1,000 square meters in the net-house system with organic fertilizer, reaching the average productivity of around 15 tons per hectare per crop.
So far, the province has formed up hi-tech agricultural parks, farmsteads under VietGap standards, cooperatives growing safe vegetables and facilities processing agricultural products. The whole province is now home to more than 580 hectares of farming land for growing various plants under organic models, including more than 25 hectares of vegetables, 250 hectares of citrus fruit trees and 258 hectares of other fruit trees. An Thai hi-tech agricultural park in Phu Giao district is seen as an outstanding unit in hi-tech agricultural development of the province.
Nguyen Thanh Kien, Director of Thanh Kien Gauva Agricultural Cooperative in Phuoc Hoa commune’s Bo La hamlet in Phu Giao district said that the lives of people have been improved, so production activities need to be adjusted for good products at the society’s increasing demand for consumption.
Four-side linkage
The province has paid more attention to agricultural restructuring. However, province-based enterprises and farmers have faced many obstacles pertaining to production scale, consumption market…for change.

For agricultural restructuring in association with making clean agricultural production, increasing agricultural economic efficiency and competitiveness, the province needs to bend on production under goods chains, sci-tech application; modernize processing and preservation, pay attention to trademark building, strengthen export activities, especially attach special importance to raising producers and consumers ‘awareness of clean products.
Also according to Mr.Nghia, the province needs to implement support policies for enterprises having the linkage with farmers in producing and consuming agricultural products; set up and maintain relations between enterprises and farmers in sharing market information, animal husbandry -cultivation skills and related services; put forward solutions on agricultural production in line with each locality’s real situation; carry out support policies for enterprises, farmers getting involved in hi-tech agricultural models and strengthen the linkage between the State, farmers, scientists and enterprises…
