Local agriculture eyes sustainable production

From sustainable foundations

Aside from strong development of industrial sector, Binh Duong agricultural sector has paid much attention to new development of advanced agricultural industry and goods productive agriculture. Over years, the agriculture has showed a strong change in forming up special zones, new economic models with high efficiency. The agricultural sector’s change is relatively comprehensive, despite some difficulties.

According to a common assessment, the local agricultural industry for the period of 2007-2009 reached a fair growth of 4.92% per year, despite obstacles of climate, epidemics and shortage of land. Of these, fishery sector accounted for the highest growth of 14.2%, followed by agriculture (4.8% per year) and forestry sector amounted the lowest level of 4.08%. Besides, the density of animal husbandry and service surged significantly.

The highlighted result of cultivation lies in forming up zones specializing in growing rubber trees and orchards; farmstead economy is strongly developing and appearing eco-urban agriculture models. As of late 2009, main plants in the locality included rubber occupying 126,070ha, orchards (4,768ha), and vegetables, pepper. 

The animal husbandry showed a high growth, creating changes of agricultural productive value. Industrial and farmstead animal husbandry sector has really played an important role in local agricultural development. As of late 2009, main animals in the locality consisted of 36,471 cows, 363,000pigs, 2.4million of poultries, 3,500 goats. 

Meanwhile, the forestry sector surged 4.08% per year, of which timber exploitation increased 3.33% per year and forestry service surged 10.71% per year. The local forestry productive value in 2009 was VND108bil, accounting for 0.98% of total value of agro-forestry and fishery sector.

Advanced development orientation

In the coming time, production of agro-forestry and fishery sector is still the most crucial field and always exists in the comprehension of local socio-economy. Sustainable agricultural development in combination with new rural building is to uphold the role of farmer class, to be considered as a strategy for economic growth and eco-environmental protection.

Some targets for the local agro-forestry and fishery sector in the coming time include to surge 3.5-4% of production value per year and reach VND80-100mil per ha per year for farming and breeding value.

The hi-tech value is considered as a factor forming up an advanced agricultural industry. The local administration has incentive policies for investors to create hi-tech agricultural areas in the locality. Projects with top priorities include An Thai, Hieu Liem, Thai Hoa, An Dien hi-tech agriculture projects. Besides, urban agricultural areas will also be paid attention to. The main target is to create urban green areas and place jobs as well as increase income for laborers.

These projects eye to develop animal husbandry sector according to industrial and environmental protection orientation and among others.

Aside from advanced development orientation, the traditional factor will be paid attention in combination with famous orchard development.
