Provincial People’s Committee yesterday held a session to approve the local report on socio-economic performance in 2016 and define orientations, tasks for 2017; the local draft resolution on socio-economic development plan for 2017… Tran Thanh Liem, Chairman of provincial People’s Committee chaired the session.
High growth
Reportedly, the province’s GDP growth rate in 2016 reached 8.5% compared to 2015. The average GDP per capita in the province was VND108.6million. The province’s economic structure was shifted with respective proportions of 63%, 23.5% and 4.3% in industry, services and agriculture. The province’s index of industrial production (IIP) saw a 10.1% increase against 2015.

The province also obtained stable growth in terms of trade-services and import export. Particularly, the province’s total retail value of commodities and services was more than VND143.31trillion, up 21% compared to 2015. Total export turnover was estimated at US$24.3billion while import value was US$20.5billion. Regarding agricultural production, the province’s agro-forestry-fishery production value was more than VND15.37trillion, up 4.1% over 2015. The province also paid more attention to natural resources and environment.
In addition, the province attached special importance to improving the local investment climate. The province’s total capital for social development was estimated at more than VND72.82billion, up 11.5% compared to 2015. The province also absorbed more than VND29.13trillion in domestic capital. So far, the province has lured 24,976 domestic projects with total registered capital of VND186trillion. In terms of FDI attraction, as of late October, the province drew more than US$1.88billion in FDI capital. The figure has brought the total amount of FDI capital flowing into the province till now to US$25.5billion from 2,808 projects.
In 2016, the province mobilized numerous resources to take care of social policy beneficiaries and realize solutions on sustainable poverty reduction. The province spent around VND927billion on caring for revolutionary contributors and doing other social welfare activities; built and upgraded 16 gratitude and “great unity” houses.
The province also strengthened public healthcare; well ensured food safety and hygiene; organized cultural-sports activities…
Stable growth to be ensured
For 2017’s main targets, the province will assure sustainable and stable growth; beef up the shift of economic structure towards the growth of service sector, continue perfecting socio-economic infrastructure and promoting urban-service development in order to create the premise for it to become a first-class city by 2020; ensure social welfare, enhancing the spiritual and material lives of locals; further improve the local investment climate to be able to lure more investors.
In 2017, the province will continue well implementing a project on industrial restructuring, a plan on cleaner industrial production; give priority to fostering auxiliary and spearheading industries; enhance the rate of localization for industrial products. The province will also further make restructuring of the local agricultural sector in association with the roadmap for completion of the National Target Program on new rural construction; attach special importance to investment attraction at hi-tech agricultural parks; strengthen agricultural promotion, uphold the effectiveness of urban and hi-tech agricultural models…
The province will further mobilize domestic and foreign capital to invest in infrastructure, modern services…For financial-credit field, the province will realize State budget spending economically and effectively.
Addressing the session, Mr.Liem basically agreed with contents reported while reminding relevant agencies to add the rate of poor households under the province’s poverty line into orientations, tasks for 2017. He also required provincial Department of Planning and Investment to soon perfect a program on improving FDI attraction for approval. Relevant agencies and units were ordered to urgently finish contents of the 3rd session of the 9th provincial People’s Council and specific programs to organize activities marking the 20th anniversary of the province’s reestablishment. He also asked for provincial Department of Natural Resources and Environment to collect and supplement contributive ideas from other sectors and departments into a report on adjustment of the province’s price land list in 2017…
