A rapid development
Since 2008, Binh Duong-based logistics industry has made up many breakthroughs with numerous big projects. Leading in investing in logistics industry is Mapletree of Singapore. In Oct. 2008, this group has run Mapletree logistics area at Binh Duong industry-service-urban complex. This is considered as Vietnam’s leading logistics area with the area of 68ha and the investment capital of US$110mil. Earlier, this group invested a logistics area at VSIP 1 with many results.
Meanwhile, Schenker Vietnam Company under DB Schenker Corporate of Germany inaugurated a US$5.5mil logistics area at Di An town in March, 2009. Since its inception, this center has offered perfect services of logistics in service for hi-tech, electronics, industrial product, cosmetics, apparel fields at industrial parks in Binh Duong and HCMC.
Next, YCH-Protrade DistriPark invested by YCH Corporate of Singapore and Binh Duong Production-Import & Export Company (Protrade) at Thuan An town in the end of 2010 had the total investment capital of US$14mil on an area of 6.9ha. With the advantage of advanced technology and offering well the international standard solutions plus Protrade’s business experience at the domestic market, YCH-Protrade DistriPark now offers logistics services for local businesses and creates advantages in transport and import and export of commodities.
After the appearance of YCH-Protrade DistriPark was Damco – the member of A.P.Moller-Maersk Corporate of Denmark which inaugurated a 2.6ha logistics center at Binh Thanh ward, Di An town. The project had a total capital of US$4mil in the first period.
Many advantages
In the short time Binh Duong has attracted many big projects investing in logistics industry. The main reason is that Binh Duong is located at the Southern key economic area’s center where has many industrial parks and leads the whole country in industrial production and goods import and export. Binh Duong alone gains the volume of import and export commodities worth of over US$26bil per year.
According to the provincial department of Investment and Planning, logistics area in Binh Duong has showed a big potential of development and has been paid much attention by investors. Many big logistics corporates coming from Singapore, Germany, Denmark and so on have invested in many projects in the province with the total capital of hundreds of millions of dollar.
Appreciating the logistics area’s role in developing economy, aside from creating favorable investment environment for logistics businesses, the provincial People’s Committee has so far considered the field as a top priority in investment attraction. Especially, the province has ratified a planning on Tan Van Logistics port to bound for a sustainable development. The planning on Tan Van Logistics port is an essential deed and will create a big logistics center with high quality lump-sum services and connect with areas to distribute goods of provinces and cities to deep water ports such as Cai Mep, Thi Vai and so on.
Aside from the mentioned advantages, the local logistics area’s important factor is the very My Phuoc-Tan Van route be going to operation. Once completed, this route will connect with the trans-Asia road, Ho Chi Minh road and traffic system of the Southern key economic zone as well as provinces and cities and airports and international ports.
Another important advantage is the recent establishment of Tong hop Binh Duong Sea Port Customs Branch at the National Highway No.1, Binh Thang ward, Di An town. The branch will increase goods customs clearance for local and regional businesses, curb cost of transport and contribute to reduce traffic congestion at the HCMC’s hub.
These important elements have helped logistics industry develop sustainbly and Binh Duong turn into an international center of goods transshipment, linking with the region and world through the trans-border logistics solutions. In addition, this is a foundation to help the locality attract more investors involving in logistics industry.
