A strong will
In 2001, Minh and his wife decided to leave the Northern province of Bac Giang for making up a new land on Binh Duong province. In the first period of the new living, he collected unused materials to earn a living whilst his wife worked as a worker. Every day, he collected unused materials at Ba Dinh quarter and witnessed local people raised pigs and he liked this work very much. After he spent his VND2mil saving to purchase 7 pigs to start his favorite breeding work.
He arrived daily at companies to ask for left food for his pig herd. In addition, he came to the wholesale markets to collect vegetables dropped by small traders to cook for his pig herd. “I raised pigs without paying any dong for food of pig herd. From 7 pigs in the first days, he developed up to 20 others and even up to 80 ones. Unfortunately, in his 80 pig herd, there were 66 ones died, owing to disease epidemic. Therefore, I immediately sold all of them”, Minh shared.
After that, he decided to turn back their homeland but his wife encouraged him to stay and start again. Thanks to his wife’s encouragement, he determined to start up again. “In 2003, I again bought 8 wild pigs each worth VND180,000 and each weighted 6kg. With breeding measures like the previous pig herd, this time I gained a success and earned over VND80mil. In 2004, thanks to introduction of a friend, I arrived at Thai Hoa township People’s Committee to ask for hiring land of Tan Ba Cooperatives with the area of 1.7ha. At that day, this land overwhelmed wild grass and mud. Many people advised me not to hire this land but I still determined”, Minh added.
Making wealth
Minh’s model of garden-pond-cage has included over 300 pigs for meat and 26 mother pigs, 6 fish ponds on an area of 1,500sqm. “Thanks to this model, we can afford to support our children’s study. On average, I yearly harvest 2 times, each time of VND85mil per fish pond whilst pig breeding model brings me a stable income”, Minh revealed.
Talking about technique of breeding, Minh told “To gain the today success, I must learn experiences of breeding and especially join in training classes and seminars for farmers as well read many books”.
Thanks to will and determination, Minh’s model helps him make wealth on the new land.
Talking about Minh, Nguyen The My, vice chairman of Thai Hoa township Farmers Society said “Minh is a laborious farmer with a determination of making wealth and is one of typical examples of farmer good at production and business for the 5 consecutive years in the province”.
