Nguyen Van Hoang in Tam Tam commune, Phu Giao district previously lived in Chanh Phu Hoa ward, Ben Cat town, and owned a rubber tree plantation. However, in recent years, rubber latex price has gone down, rubber trees cannot guarantee a stable income, so he went to Tam Lap to set up a high-tech model of cantaloupe cultivation. This way has brought him a considerable income.

Mr. Hoang shared, the switch from rubber tree to cantaloupe required many things, like building net house, irrigation system, positioning system, production diary… at first made him quite surprised. Yet he gradually learned from experiences, so his production model now is stabilized and earns hundreds of millions VND per year.
He currently has 2 net houses with total area of nearly 2,000m2. Each house has capacity of 3 crops per year. At present, each house has 1,300 trees, and produces about 1.2 tons. According to Mr. Hoang, just like other crop plants, in order to gain stable productivity, distribution channels must be guaranteed. However, dealers pledged to buy all his products. The planting of melon is not simple, although many materials give quite detailed instructions. But in fact, depending on terrains, land, water, and climate, each person draws his own experiences.
Mr. Hoang said, the planting of cantaloupe does not depend on passion. This crop should have bring hundreds of millions VND, but now he lose all. The reason was that rains and thunderstorm swept canvases away, insects damaged plants, while the planting must completely use no pesticides. Because each tree produces only one fruit, one tree grows in only one season, and trees are planted in a common house. In addition, renovation of net houses is also very difficult, labor-intensive...
At present, many farmers in the province have applied scientific and technical advances in production, selected models that bring high economic efficiency. Farmers in urban areas choose models that do not require large lands, such as growing orchids, ornamental plants, ornamental fish. Farmers in the northern part with large land funds have developed efficient farm models, such as orange, grapefruit, tangerine, mushroom or cattle.
In the field of cultivation, many farmers in the province have set up models of vegetable production in net house with automatic irrigation system, automatic dripping and spraying technology transferred from Israel, treating off-season flower, applying VietGAP process... In terms of livestock, many farms are invested and developed in large scale, build cold farms with feeder system, use bio-mats, so achieve the lowest risk of disease and epidemic, orient towards the production of large commodities...
