Under the national target program on poverty reduction, Phu Giao district has implemented a wide range of preferential policies for poor and near-poor households, helping them rise up out of poverty.
In early 2016, Phu Giao district had a total of 641 poor households under the province’s poverty line or 2.49% of total population and 701 near-poor ones or 3.21% of total. The number of the local poor households in early 2017 reduced to 445 or 1.57% of total and there were 778 near-poor households or 3.56% of total.

Thanks to the attention and support of the local government, Pham Thi Het’s family in Phu Giao district’s Tan Hiep commune has so far risen up out of poverty
Under the national target program on poverty reduction, the district over the past two years organized 31 vocational training classes for 888 poor people; considered and disbursed more than VND33.57billion in loan from the Bank for Social Policies for 985 households to develop home based business.
Besides, the district’s functional agencies teamed up with relevant units to open more than 100 training courses on sci-tech transfer for more than 6,680 people; provided tuition exemption and reduction of nearly VND4.5billion for 12,695 people.
The district also upgraded, built 22 “great unity” houses with a total expense of more than VND1billion; spent more than VND384 million on power cost support for 1,281 poor households…Thanks to the above efforts, in 2016, the district had a total of 213 poor households rising up out of poverty. The number of the local poor households by the end of 2016 reduced to 343 or 1.56% of total. Since early this year, the whole district has had a total of 154 households escaping poverty. The number of the local poor households has decreased to 178 or 1.14% of total.
Thanks to the attention and help of the local administration, Pham Thi Het’s family residing in hamlet 6, Tan Hiep commune has so far risen up out of poverty. She said that along with 2 breeding cows supported, over the past time, her family was considered and granted preferential loans, health insurance cards together with many other support policies. With such support, her family surmounted difficulties and was recognized a family with sustainable poverty escape.
Nguyen Van Long, Vice-Chairman of the district’s People’s Committee cum Head of the district’s Steering Board of the Poverty Reduction Program said that the district’s People’s Committee has opportunely set up annual plans on rechecking the list of poor and near-poor households under the province’s multi-dimensional approach to poverty in the period of 2016-2020.
During the process of realizing the local program on poverty reduction, the district’s People’s Committee excelled at monitoring work, ensuring the implementation of policies on social welfare and the efficiency of carrying out targets on poverty reduction…Upon this, the district reached good results in the poverty reduction program.
