Metal cutting workers are now recruited with high salary. However, vocational schools in Binh Duong are training very few learners, and even eliminate this profession from enrollment list. What is the reason?
At job transaction floors hosted by provincial Job Introducing Center, many businesses recruited metal cutting workers with a salary of VND4-6 million / month. However, the number of applicants was very low. Thus, businesses posted recruitment notice before the company or contact with vocational schools to recruit graduates of this profession.

Vietnam – Singapore vocational college invested in machinery to meet needs of metal cutting learners.
Hai My Company (Di An town) wanted to recruit 3 qualified labors of metal cutting with many incentives, like: office hours, salary of VND6-10 million / month, 24/24 accident insurance; the 13th month’s salary, bonus at year-end, holidays. But after 5 months, the company has not recruited enough workers yet. Nam Do Company (Ho Chi Minh City) wanted to recruit metal cutting labors to work in Binh Duong. After 4 months of recruitment on job introducing websites, they have not got any suitable candidates.
A paradox occurred that while recruitment needs for metal cutting is high, vocational schools in Binh Duong cannot enroll students for this profession. Provincial Vocational junior college purchased many machines to train students, but they have not had any students for metal cutting for 2 years. In the 2015-2016 academic year, the college enrolled only 4 students for this profession. Vietnam – Korea vocational junior college also has the same situation, does not have any students for this specialty.
According to vocational schools, along with cold craft, welding, metal cutting is lacking for personnel. Companies came directly to recruit but schools did not have students to satisfy their need. The reason is that graduates of this profession in previous years were not able to find job. In addition, learners believed that this job was not good for their health; learners must work frequently with metals, large machinery, noise, vibration, iron dust…
However, according to Mr. Nguyen Van Hiep, Rector of Vietnam – Singapore vocational college, since 1997, the college enrolled 250-300 new students for metal cutting program. The college also surveyed the recruited graduates rate and the average salary (VND 5-7 million / person / month). He said, any profession has strengths and weaknesses. To metal cutting, students must wear protective clothing as practicing. Besides, this profession is not simply cut metals manually but also use computers to design models, components on CNC machine.
Therefore, vocational schools should popularize characteristics and career opportunities of this profession. Schools should also invest in modern machinery for practicing; develop cooperation with businesses to train students.
