A 9 km long overpass linking the north Linh Dam peninsula with the Mai Dich area in Hanoi has been opened to traffic.

Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc, Secretary of the Hanoi municipal Party Committee Pham Quang Nghi, and Japanese ambassador to Vietnam Yasuaki Tanizaki attended the opening ceremony on October 21, along with leaders from central ministries and sectors.
In his speech, Deputy PM Phuc, who is also the Chairman of the National Committee for Transport Safety, said that the overpass is the most modern in Vietnam and is very significant to deepening the Vietnam-Japan friendship. The project plays an important role in connecting Hanoi’s arteries such as National Highways 1A, No. 5, and No. 18, as well as the Phap Van-Ninh Binh, Lang-Hoa Lac, and Thang Long-Noi Bai, which will help ease traffic congestion and boost the capital's socio-economic development.
Phuc praised the great efforts made by contractors and relevant units to finish the project nearly 15 months ahead of schedule, which shows the responsibility the transport sector and the Government are taking to effectively use ODA funding and deal with urgent inner-city transport issues.
He also thanked the Japanese Government and people for their valuable assistance to Vietnam and asked the Ministry of Transport to effectively manage the project to enhance the city's transport capacity.
Japanese ambassador to Vietnam Yasuaki Tanizaki said he is very pleased with the early completion of the project, as well as Japan’s providing ODA for Vietnam and transferring the advanced technology to build the overpass.
He also reiterated that his government will continue supporting Vietnam in the future.Construction on the project started in June 2010. The overpass, including two 385m access roads and 8.5km of bridges, is invested with more than VND5.5 trillion.
This is Hanoi’s first four-lane overpass that can handle cars running at a maximum of 80km/h.
