Nguyen Van Tien, Director of Dan Tien Cooperative, takes care of orchards of the cooperative.

 Brand development

Recently, the change in citrus development in North Tan Uyen District has also helped people's lives become more and more well-off; many farmers have enriched their family and created more jobs for local rural workers. According to People's Committee of North Tan Uyen District, citrus fruit trees, such as oranges, pomelo, tangeries and seedless passion fruit are main crops of the district, which have formed areas concentrated mainly in communes of Dat Cuoc, Tan My, Thuong Tan, Lac An, Tan Dinh and Hieu Liem.

Most of these specialized areas apply new techniques, achieve high productivity, good quality, production towards large scale and concentration. In order to develop the area of citrus fruit trees, North Tan Uyen District has implemented 4 programs: Development of infrastructure, high-tech agriculture, citrus fruit farming areas, and national target programs for new rural construction. Up to now, most large farms and orchards in the district have certificates of food safety and hygiene.

Recognizing the importance of transforming production towards meeting the "green, clean" requirement of consumers, many cooperatives and households have changed into organic production. As a result, products of North Tan Uyen have affirmed their reputation. With the average yield of orchards such as pomelo, orange, jackfruit etc. up to 50 tons / ha, Nhan Duc Cooperative (in Cay Dau hamlet, Hieu Liem commune) is one of the typical agricultural cooperatives of North Tan Uyen district in implementing organic farming with a total average turnover of over 30 billion VND / year, bringing in billions of VND for members. Five years ago, the cooperative started to focus on growing organic fruit trees, quality and yield of citrus orchards at Nhan Duc Cooperative have been improved by taking advantage of water resources from Dong Nai River. High hill land is very suitable for citrus, constrain inundation, produce out-of-season fruits. Products of the cooperative have been recognized, branded with logo of organic grapefruit USDA Jarkartan - Netherlands since 2018. This has helped the cooperative's organic fruits to be introduced and consumed in stores in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City.

Nguyen Van Tien, Director of Dan Tien Cooperative in Tan Dinh Commune, North Tan Uyen, said pomelo, oranges and tangerines in this land are very special, known for being delicious because of their thin skin, plenty of water, mild sweet taste. In the past, most people cultivated spontaneously and misused plant protection drugs, so selling price was not high. Over the years, farmers have learned from experience, applied science and technology and switched to clean organic products, so traders welcome the products, and prices are stable.

To stand firmly on the market

While doing technical work and being responsible for finding consumption market for members of the cooperative, Mr. Nguyen always has concerns. “In addition to organic production and diversification of processed products, members of the cooperative join hands with farmers to bring Binh Duong's clean agricultural products further by expanding sustainable consumption channels and targeting "clean" consumers who are more and more everyday, "said Mr, Nguyen.

According to Nguyen Van Thuan, Head of Economic Office of North Tan Uyen District People's Committee, the whole district has nearly 2,600 hectares of fruit trees, with an average yield of over 50 tons / ha / year, bringing in income from 1 to 1.2 billion VND / ha / year. With pomelo trees, the district has over 115ha for an average harvest of nearly 20 tons / ha / year and an income of about 600 million VND / ha. For sugar mandarin, North Tan Uyen currently has 42 hectares being harvested, yield reaches 40-50 tons / ha / year, bringing an income of nearly 800 million VND / ha / year. Many cooperatives growing citrus trees in North Tan Uyen are operating efficiently.

In order for citrus trees to develop in the coming time, Nguyen Van Thuan said that the district continued to build and implement planning for a citrus tree growing area; invest in the development of agricultural, transport, irrigation, electricity and commercial infrastructures; actively propagated policies and guidelines in agriculture among farmers. In addition, the district will also actively carry out projects to support the development and care for the output of citrus products; encourage trade promotion activities, organize seminars on solutions to improve product quality and expand consumption markets of citrus in the district.

The whole district currently has 15 cooperatives, 6 cooperative groups that are operating stably in many fields such as agriculture, trade, services, transportation, construction, manufacturing, handicraft ... In which, cooperatives growing citrus have made good imprints. In addition to Nhan Duc cooperative, there are also Nhuan Duc cooperative or Tan My fruit tree cooperative, Nam Hang cooperative... These are good examples of cooperative economic model, agricultural production applying modern technology and bringing high efficiency.
