Dau Tieng district’s farming land now accounts for over 80% of the local natural land. Of these, there are more than 567 hectares of fruit trees, including around 79.7 hectares of mangosteens, mainly in Thanh Tuyen commune. Over the past time, with provincial People’s Committee’s support policies, the district’s agricultural sector developed new models, comprising of a mangosteens-growing model in association with ecotourism development. The model has been promoted in Thanh Tuyen commune.
Great potential
Thanh Tuyen commune in Dau Tieng district has a favorable geographical position bordering three localities: Binh Duong, Tay Ninh and HCM city. Agricultural production is an economic strong point of the commune. The whole commune now has more than 215 hectares of fruit trees like mangosteens, durians, guavas…The commune’s annual output of mangosteens reaches around 800 tons-1,000 tons. Being one of top mangosteen growers in applying Vietgap standards in Thanh Tuyen commune’s Suoi Cat hamlet, Nguyen Van Ty said that in recent years, the local mangosteen growers have not only set up linkage groups on production and consumption, but also made coherence in developing ecological sites, absorbing a large number of tourists.
He added that farmers in the commune have aimed at an agricultural model in combination with tourism. The project on developing a specialized area on growing mangosteens in association with ecotourism in the commune will be a chance for farmers to popularize their products as well as the district’s new rural and urban agricultural image in the future.
For orchard development in association with tourism in the district getting success, according to experts, along with sci-tech support, farmers need to be guided basic skills on tourism. The local functional agencies and travel units must build up a professional force on ecotourism for long-term development.
