Many choose pamelo as gift to give away and as arrangement. Catching up with the market, the farmers are robustly preparing for the major crop of the year. The output of Thuy’s orchard is calculated at 25 to 30 tons per hectare a year. According to Thuy, green-skin pamelo is priced VND 60,000 a kilogram at the orchard site which is higher than previous crop. For this year, the changing weather cause the crop output to drop, making the price higher; however, Thuy is maintaining reasonable prices to satisfy the buyers. According to Thuy, the prolonged heatwave in 2014 has affected pamelo blossom. Besides, the season is not the riping time of pamelo; therefore, the production is low. Only orchard with technology applied can supply pamelo at the moment.

Due to the unexpected weather, the pamelo price is fluctuated by 10-20% higher than previous year as the supply is reduced.

Bach Dang Islet in Tan Uyen Town is famous for sweet organge-leaf pamelo in tens of years. Recently, farmers have been busier taking care of pamelo orchards to timely supply for the market during Tet Holiday 2015.

Bach Dang Commune has nearly 400 hectares for pamelo orchards. Under current pricing situation, the farmers are expanding the cultivation area. As pamelo has been endorsed as a collective brand, the product shall outreach to better markets. Depending on conditions and cultivation experience, pamelo can be produced all year round or only during Tet Holiday.

In the face of higher prices, farmers are expecting for more income.

The 1-hectare pamelo orchard of family of Mr. Ngo Minh Hung at Tan Trach Hamlet is offerring the 10th year of production for sweet and fresh pamelo of Bach Dang. Hung affirmed the lower production due to this year’s weather. Normally, sweet orange-leaf pamelo takes 4 to 5 years to yield fruits with the yielding peak in the 8th and 12th years for nearly 20 tons a hectare which can accommodate 300-350 pamelo trees. In good conditions, each pamelo tree could yield 200 fruits a year for VND 40,000 a kilogram this year.

To be qualify, a pamelo fruit should weigh from 1.2 kilogram and look smooth, round, and stalk preservation. Many farmers choose VietGAP and GlobalGAP to apply into their orchards so that they could offer the best and the safest products to the market.
