Regarding urban development in recent years, endeavors have been implemented in various effective and practical measures to improve living standard of the people in Thu Dau Mot City.
Poverty reduction well implemented
Over the past time, the work of ensuring social security has always been one of the key tasks of the Party committees and local authorities of Thu Dau Mot City. Accordingly, in order to improve the income for the people, 14 wards of the city have encouraged people to develop their strengths in trade and services, clean cultivation and husbandry, safety in the direction of urban agriculture; at the same time, to create favorable conditions for people to access preferential loans for production and businesses.

In the fields of animal husbandry and cultivation, the functional branches of Thu Dau Mot City have focused on propagandizing and supporting technical measures, selection of breeds, food resources, prevention and treatment measures for the environment. The city has also paid special attention to the development of specialized urban agriculture models such as green vegetables, ornamental plants, industrial crops and perennial fruit trees of high economic value, bringing a high and stable source of income for the citizen. Typically, the model of growing orchids of Bui Van Sang in Tan An ward; Khai Yen's vegetable farm of Huynh Van Khai in Phu My ward earning about 500 million Vietnam dong a year. Or the model of discus fish of Tuan Kiet in Quarter 9 of Phu My Ward, bringing profit of VND 1.5 billion per year. Kiet shared that, for the model of discus fish farm of 400 m2, the life of his family has been better off. The success of this model has partly been thanks to local technical support and introduction of breeding stock for his family.
In the field of cottage industry, all levels and branches of the city have mobilized people to diversify the industry. For dispersed industrial establishments in urban centers and Thu Dau Mot city has created the best conditions for relocation into concentrated industrial parks and transforming their functions into commercial-service areas. Particularly traditional handicraft villages in the Chanh Nghia ward and Tuong Binh Hiep ward are also associated with the planning of tourism development, bringing good results. In the process of development, the city also implemented large-scale housing projects, developing new urban areas, especially social housing, with more and more built-up facilities, structure of apartment area in accordance with the financial ability of the people.
As a thread linking through, taking care of the lives of people, Thu Dau Mot City has done well to reduce poverty. The city is always interested in doing job training for workers, creating jobs for tens of thousands of workers in recent years. In 2017, the People's Committee of Ho Chi Minh City directed the units to disburse new loans for 948 poor, near poor households, escape poverty, 127 households for student loans, 1,472 households for job creation loans, economic development, stable life. In addition, the social relief work is well implemented by the city. Only in 2017, the city has built and donated 5 houses, repairing 10 houses of gratitude, mobilizing the socialization of construction and awarding 8 houses for social policy beneficiaries, build 14 great houses.
Attention to improving spiritual life of the people
Together with the work of poverty reduction, Thu Dau Mot always pay attention to improve the quality of life for the people. Accordingly, cultural works have been upgraded by the city; the socialization of culture and sport has attracted many resources to build and develop to meet the needs of people. The city has 16 provincial cultural and sport facilities, 71 physical training and sport facilities and 114 sports grounds and gymnasiums managed by organizations and individuals. With the system of new and modern facilities, the cultural and sport centers in the area have been attracting a large number of people to participate in training, creating a dynamic social environment, step by step raising quality of life, entertainment for people in the area.
It can be seen that once the urbanization process has taken place with a lot of modern socio-economic and cultural constructions, the building of an urban civilized lifestyle is an indispensable requirement. Van Nguyet Anh, Chair of Phu Cuong Ward said that in order to contribute to the city's construction to become a class I city, in the past years, the ward has focused on leadership with many suitable and effective solutions. One of the solutions is that the ward has strengthened propaganda, advocacy and resolute handling of violations in the field of urban order, construction order, environmental sanitation, classified advertising. As a result, the sense of law enforcement of the people has been gradually increased, the situation of encroaching on the pavement as a place of business has decreased significantly.
Particularly, the city is implementing the scheme on organizing the campaign of "Building cultural-civilized lifestyle" in 2016-2020. Nguyen Thu Cuc, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Ho Chi Minh City said that after 1 year of implementing the project, urban management, environmental sanitation and traffic safety in the whole province have achieved good results. . The localities of the city have registered the management of the model route, not grazing cattle on the road; Some models have been implemented effectively such as "Youth for the urban green", "The street is civilized, clean, no garbage, no encroachment on the sidewalk". By this way the people are mobilized to participate in the project, creating a positive change for the spiritual life of the people of the city.
In the process of urban construction, although there are limitations and difficulties, the results achieved by Thu Dau Mot City has demonstrated the team, promote the internal force of the city. In the heart of the aspiration to build a civilized and modern city (in 2016-2020), every citizen of Thu Dau Mot city is always proud of not only the economic but also the good life.
