After five years of implementing patriotic emulation movements from 2010 to 2015, Phu Giao district had a total of 1,440 poor farming households escaping poverty and more than 31,700 households winning the title of “good farmer in production and business”.
Being active in supporting farmers
Bui Van Quen, Chairman of Phu Giao district’s Farmers’ Association said that under patriotic emulation movements, the local Farmers’ Association over time teamed up with relevant agencies to propagandize the Party and State’s policies and laws regarding agriculture, farmers and rural areas. This was also the foundation for farmers in the district to uphold their vanguard role in developing new models, contributing to promoting the local agricultural development.
During the past five years, the district’s Farmers’ Association considered and disbursed nearly VND170bln in loan from many resources for approximately 6,700 members to develop homebased business. The association also mobilized fertilizer companies to buy thousands of tons of fertilizer under deferred payment for the local farmers; mobilized members to help each other in terms of materials for agricultural production, nurslings, breeding animals…with a total value of tens of billions of dong. In addition, the association organized tours to new models for thousands of members; coordinated with relevant agencies to open seminars on sci-tech transfer in cultivation and animal husbandry for the local farmers…
Outstanding farmers
Through patriotic emulation movements, Phu Giao had a total of 1,446 farming households escaping poverty and more than 31,700 farming households winning the title of “good farmer in production and business” or 74.7% of total. Among them, there were 409 recognized as good farmers at central level; 2,853 at provincial level and more than 6,800 at district level.
So far, the district has formed up 341 farms under new criteria of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development with nearly 2,570 laborers. The average income of each farm reaches nearly VND3bln a year.
There have also been many effective models discovered in the district, including those of planting tangerines by farmer Cao Huu Tri in Tam Lap commune; planting rubber trees, breeding wild boars, chickens by farmer Nguyen Ngoc Diep in Phuoc Vinh township; breeding swiftlets by farmer Lam Thanh Tong in Tan Hiep commune.
Along with being active in business and production activities, farmers in Phu Giao district have been very enthusiastic in the new rural construction program. They contributed nearly VND15bln and more than 5,000 working days to upgrading and building over 141 kilometers of rural roads, dredging over 7 kilometers of canals and installing 57 sullage pits over the past five years. Noticeably, Nguyen Van Tron in Tam Lap commune voluntarily donated and made a rural road of 600 meters.
The above significant activities contributed to promoting the local urban image.
