In the last epidemic of blue-ear pig disease, Phu Giao district was one of localities under the heaviest damage. After the epidemic, the locality has drawn precious lessons.
100% of communes and townships escape blue-ear disease
Phu Giao district has so far had 11 out of 11 communes and townships crossing 21 days of blue –ear disease and completed procedures to announce status of the disease escape in the locality. The result was thanks to well control of local authority and people. Though the epidemic is over, local farmers still excel the work of epidemic control right at their farms.
Improvement of breeding facilities will help control epidemic disease better.
In the past epidemic, the district culled nearly 112 tons of infected pigs. The local authority offered a supportive money worth over VND2bil for affected farmers. Besides, the district has continued implementing control measures of spraying 2,500 doses of pesticides across markets, farms, slaughtering houses and quarantine stations. Especially, the district experimentally injected 2,000 doses of vaccine against blue-ear disease for local pigs. Until now, pigs injected the vaccine have developed healthily.At present, local pig breeders have surged the quantity of their pig flock. Many households strengthen standards for selecting breeding pigs to reach high efficiency.
Precious lessons
Though suffering heaviest damages of the epidemic, the district was one of localities escaping the epidemic firstly. Pham Van Chien, head of the district Veterinary Station, said the Phu Giao’s biggest experience lesson on controlling the blue-ear disease was to excel promulgations and support policies to local breeders.
To maximum minimize epidemic diseases, it is essential to have plans for animal husbandry. And, concentrated breeding planning is considered as one of long and basic solutions for sustainable development. Besides, it is necessary to have regulations for separate and small breeding.
