Implementing the provincial party committee’s action program on rural areas, agriculture and farmers, Phu Giao district party committee delivered a Plan No.29-KH/HU on launching and disseminating the program to local authorities and people.
After 5 years of launching implementation of the program, economy and image of rural areas, farmers and agriculture have been improved.
Combining with implementation of the national goal program on building new rural areas, local people’s life has been improved. Till the end of 2012, the local agro-forestry structure reached 43%, reducing 5.5% from 2008. Local production value of agro-forestry won VND687bil, up VND361bil from 2008 whilst capita average income was at VND27.1mil per year.
The total area of agricultural production in the district now has nearly 50,000ha, 40,000ha of which are perennial trees. The locality has had 2 hi-tech agriculture projects at An Thai, Phuoc Sang and Tan Hiep communes. Aside from these 2 hi-tech agriculture projects, the district now has 315 agriculture production farmsteads with the total area of over 3,400ha, placing jobs for over 2,800 laborers. In addition, the entire district now has 3 cooperatives including Phuoc Hoa people’s credit fund, Phuoc Sang agriculture service cooperative and Minh Tri poultry and cattle breeding cooperative.
Together with strong development on agricultural area, rural image in Phu Giao district has been changing. System of rural traffic has been upgraded, repaired and built newly, meeting transport demand of local people.
Until now, Phu Giao has built 308 rural traffic works with the total length of more than 253km and value of over VND67bil. Rate of local households using electricity and clean water has reached over 99% whilst 100% of communes and townships have met the national standards on healthcare. The whole district now has 25 out of 36 schools winning the national standards.
After 5 years of implementing the Plan, Phu Giao people’s life has been improved remarkably. This result is a foundation for local communes to soon complete the national goal program on building new rural areas and to reinforce role and position of agriculture and farmers in the local economy.
