2013 was a difficult year for Vietnam’s rubber industry. But, Phuoc Hoa Rubber Joint Stock Company (JVC) still continued reaching a stable growth thanks to its appropriate development strategy.
Overcoming difficulties
In 2013, Phuoc Hoa Rubber JSC faced many difficulties in production and business, due to bad weather, low price and many other reasons. But, the JSC’s staff tried their best to overcome all difficulties to well fulfill the year’s plan.
The JSC’s total rubber latex output in 2013 was estimated at 19,200 tons, up 200 tons compared to the year’s plan. The average productivity of rubber latex in the JSC reached nearly 2 tons per hectare. There were around 29,000 tons of rubber latex consumed in 2013 with the average price of VND53.8mln per ton, helping the JSC secure more than VND250bln in profit.
The JSC’s export still went on smooth with a total value amounting to around US$34mln. So far, the Phuoc Hoa rubber brand name has been known by many countries in the world. Nguyen Van Tan, General Director of the JSC said that the JSC still maintained export contracts with its partners in 2013, despite difficulties. To achieve this, the JSC attached special importance to maintaining and improving the quality of rubber latex products.
He added that the JSC’s fruits in production and business over the past time also came from the efforts by staff herein. Currently, the JSC controls over more than 16,000 hectares of rubber in three districts of Phu Giao, Tan Uyen and Ben Cat with more than 6,000 laborers. The JSC has always paid more attention to taking good care of the spiritual and material lives of laborers via many incentives. In 2013, the JSC’s laborers enjoyed the average monthly income of VND6.5mln.
Also according to
him, it is expected that around 1,000 hectares of the JSC’s rubber trees will
be liquidated from 2014 for recultivation every year. After 2020, the JSC will
generate new product lines with higher yield. The JSC will also team up with the
Rubber Research Institute of Vietnam to make intensive farming on its rubber
gardens for the best productivity; give training to young workers who are the
offspring of workers taking jobs herein since 1982; made efforts to promote export…

Strong attachment to localities
One of the JSC’s practical activities in Tan Uyen, Phu Giao and Ben Cat where its rubber gardens have been developed is to purchase rubber latex from the local small rubber gardens. In 2013, the JSC’s rubber latex output purchased from the local small rubber gardens was estimated at 10,800 tons. Mr.Tan added that this purchasing was encouraged by Vietnam Rubber Group to give price support to the local farmers. It also contributed to ensuring a source of the JSC’s latex rubber products and creating jobs for laborers. In the coming time, the JSC will further maintain and promote this purchasing.
Over the past time, the JSC also made contributions to Tan Uyen, Phu Giao and Ben Cat districts where its rubber gardens have been developed. The JSC spent hundreds of billion of dong on upgrading hundreds of kilometers of roads, building schools, hospitals…in the three districts. The JSC also cooperated with the three districts to get involved in social charity activities, hunger eradication and poverty reduction, new rural construction…Particularly, the JSC supported each district to build 5 or 7 houses of compassion a year; spent tens of billion of dong on maintaining Vietnamese heroic mothers, helping policy beneficiary families and households hit by natural disasters…
In 2013, Phuoc Hoa Rubber JSC was among Vietnam’s top 50 enterprises selected by Forbes Vietnam. It is predicted that Vietnam’s rubber industry will face difficulties in 2014. But with its 30-year production experience and appropriate development strategies, the JSC will further take stable steps towards higher targets.
