Le Thi Mong Tuyen (Dong Tac hamlet, Tan Dong Hiep commune, Dien An town) uses a small area of only a few dozen square meters to earn good income for the family. Tuyen shared that her pigeon raising area is empty swine rearing space. A few years ago, seeing his younger brother raising pigeons for stable income, she and her husband fixed the pigsty to rear pigeons. It was in 2012 when she started raising pigeons with 40 pairs of Dutch pigeons. The first few litters, due to lack of experience and knowledge of raising pigeons so she failed. After that, she spent a lot of time learning and cultivating techniques from successful pigeon rearing models. Through hard-working and inquisitive manner, she gradually increased the number of pigeons. Later, she found that the French pigeon has a large body weight, which is preferred by the market than the Dutch pigeon so she switched to French pigeon.

Tuyen is currently breeding nearly 400 pairs of pigeons. Weekly, she provides poultry meat for termites in Lai Thieu ward of Thuan An town on the third and seventh day for selling price from VND 40,000 to 45,000 a pigeon and retail price of VND 50,000 a pigeon. As for pigeon breed she sells for VND 500,000 a pair, and baby pigeons for VND 400,000 a pair. Tuyen said that her pigeon sales is quite stable and at time the stock is insufficient to supply to customers.
Sharing the experience of raising pigeons, Tuyen said that pigeons are easy to raise as comparing to chicken. Pigeons face less sickness in cool, clean and full of light places without the wind and noise. On feeding, she feeds 2 times a day, mainly rice and industrial bran. Along with that Vitamin B1, Vitamin C, and drinking water are supplemented. In the process of raising, farmers need to regularly watch, if pigeons refuse to eat or have diarrhea, then drugs need administering. With 400 pairs of pigeons, each month she earns tens of million Vietnam dong. Importantly, farmers must actively seek out the sales before investing in dove farming. Besides, when choosing pigeons, those of large maws which are use to contain more food for baby pigeons. Farmers also need to regularly wash food troughs and offer clean drinking water to prevent diseases.
With a small area of land in a highly urbanized area such as Tan Dong Hiep Ward, investing in high-value breeding animals such as pigeons is a good way for families to live in urban today. This is considered as an effective route being encouraged by localities in the province.
