Tran Phu Duc, Head of Personnel Department of An Thanh Garment Company in Ben Cat Town, said that in the beginning of 2018, the company had to increase its production by continuous shifts. Representatives of Sadaco Wood Company said that from now to Mau Tuat Lunar New Year, the company must deliver dozens of export containers. As the Tet is approaching, the company has to recruit more staff to serve the production. It is expected that the company, in this week, allow workers to rest and relieve stresses and then continue to embark on work.
Vuong Sieu Tin, Director of Phuoc Dau Long Ceramics Company, said that the company has recently held a ceremony to encourage workers in the face of overwhelming orders from the beginning of the year to be finished by the 27th of December to celebrate Tet Holiday. According to Tin, by the sixth day of the month, the company has to export goods to foreign countries. Therefore, he was also quite worry about shortage of workers after Tet.
Production is on-going at Lam Viet Wood Company
For labor-intensive enterprises, the lack of labor resources has become very haunting after Tet. Nguyen Quang Vu, Director of Prowin Footwear Company, said that only 5% of workers not returning to work after Tet could possibly cause great difficulties for enterprises. Westerner customers are very serious about credit and if the delivery is not as committed, the enterprises would lose their customers.
Labor shortage after Tet – worrisome remains
According to the decision of the Prime Minister on the holiday schedule of the Tet, the workers are entitled to 7 days off from February 14 through 20. Compared to many years ago, in the Lunar New Year 2018 workers were given fewer days off. The habit of celebrating Tet of workers makes the 7 days of holiday 7 days of waiting for employing enterprises. To deal with this situation, most businesses have to give workers 3 to 4 days in additional to holiday of the state. However, the slower working conditions of the companies or the change of workplace often would occur in the previous days.
Nguyen Liem, Director of Lam Viet Wood Company said that due to many orders, the company did not organize all this year. More than 1,500 workers of the company have to work till the 26th or 27th of lunar December before Tet; in return, the company will reward them payments of the 13th and even 14th month. According to Liem, thanks to the preferential regime, after Tet in the previous years, the returning rate was of 94-95%; thus, the worry of personnel shortage is not significant for the company.
Recognizing the situation, in recent years, the number of workers quitting the job in Binh Duong after Tet is not much as companies and enterprises have offered good policies for them. In addition, the trade union of industrial zones in the province often visit to grasp up the heart and aspirations of workers, thereby coordinating with workers to solve the problems in time, offering them peace of mind to stay with the businesses. According to experts, the payment of wages, Tet bonus, transportation fares, and lucky money for New Year is very necessary. However, in order to attract laborers to work, enterprises need to have more efficient and uniform solutions such as transportation and allowances. The salary of the workers should be adjusted more reasonable to market prices today. In addition, employees should be aware that they must comply with working regulations.
