Implementing Program No. 26-Ctr/TU dated September 20th 2011 of provincial Party’s Committee on agricultural restructuring towards urban, high-tech agriculture associated with processing industry in the period 2011-2015, the application of new technologies in husbandry in the province has been increasingly growing, thanks to the participation of many organizations and individuals.

Implementing many high-tech models

By the end of 2014, the planned area of high-tech agriculture in the province reached 979.71 hectares; safe vegetables and ornamental plants area reached 202 hectares, fruit trees area was 2,203 hectares; high-tech breeding cluster was formed with total cattle of over 452,300, total poultry of over 6.1 million. High-tech husbandry has been deployed widely, such as: open net house, closed net house, automatic irrigation system, drip irrigation system… on more than 372.5 hectares area of valued plants and crops, like: vegetables, mushrooms, fruits, herbs, ornamental plants… Breeding farms invested in automatic feeding and drinking system, cooling system…

4 high-tech agricultural zones of An Thai, Hieu Liem, Tan Hiep Vinh Tan have developed their scale. An Thai high-tech agricultural zone located in An Thai commune, Phu Giao district has supplied products to major supermarkets and exported to the Japanese market. Besides, urban agriculture has also been enhanced. There were 500 organizations and individuals investing in more than 117 hectares of hydroponic vegetables, sprouts, mushrooms, orchids, ornamental plants (78.7 hectares) and 433 households breeding 247,000 animals including mainly fish, alligators, turtles, pheasants, porcupines, snakes…

High profitability

In recent years, provincial farmers have gradually applied scientific  - technological advancements, foreign farming techniques, new varieties, VietGAP, Global GAP cultivation process. Despite of high start-up capital, these models have high profitability, thus total high-tech agricultural production area increases annually.

Farmer Lam Thanh Thang owning an orange plantation in Hieu Liem commune, Tan Uyen district, said, at first, he had to use diesel water pumping machines requiring 2 labors/day to water 1 hectare. After installing three-phase electric system and automatic watering system with total cost of VND70-100 million/ha, the number of labors decreased by 1 labor/10-15 hectares/day; the average yield reached 40-50 tons/hectare; average profit was 300-500 million/hectare.

The transfer of scientific  - technological advancements has facilitated the development of agricultural production, particularly urban agriculture, high-tech agriculture. Due to the transfer of ornamental fish rearing model of provincial Agricultural Promotion Center, many kinds of ornamental fish in the province have been sold nationwide and exported to foreign countries.

Mr. Nguyen Van Quang, Director of provincial Agricultural Promotion Center, the ornamental fish rearing model did not require much space, we could make use of yards, terraces… to develop this model. A household rearing about 30 fish pairs in several dozen aquariums is able to earn a monthly income of VND10 million.

The high technologies application into agricultural development has been spread, contributing to expanding area, size of urban agriculture, high-tech agriculture in the province and gradually consolidating the name of Binh Duong agricultural products in domestic and international market.
