Province exploits advantages effectively and aims for green agriculture

Binh Duong is actively promoting the development of ecological agriculture and a circular economy within the agricultural sector, while also emphasizing social responsibility in the production and trading of agricultural products. This approach serves as both the goal and driving force behind sustainable growth of agricultural sector at this time.

 Many advantages

Although the agricultural sector currently contributes less than 3% to the province's economic structure, key agricultural products are gaining recognition for their high productivity and quality. In particular, Binh Duong has recently implemented several policies to support and encourage agricultural development in the context of urban agriculture, reflecting its commitment to enhancing this sector alongside industrial growth, high-tech agriculture, linking production and consumption of agricultural products in the province, developing technology for preliminary processing, preservation, and processing of agricultural, forestry, and fishery products.

To improve the efficiency of organic agricultural production, many enterprises, cooperatives, and farming households in the province have focused on diversifying crops and livestock in a sustainable manner, suitable to actual conditions of each locality. A typical example is the citrus growing farm of Dan Tien Agricultural, Trade, Service and Transport Cooperative (North Tan Uyen district), with a production area of over 50 hectares, mainly growing green-skinned pomelo and oranges according to VietGAP standards. Mr. Nguyen Van Tien, the Director of this cooperative, stated that the cooperative not only develops production in accordance with VietGAP and environmentally friendly organic standards but also actively supports its members and farmers in linking product consumption.

The cooperative emphasizes safe production by prioritizing the use of organic fertilizers and biological pesticides. As a result, its products ensure health safety, enhance productivity, and build consumer trust. Additionally, the cooperative has invested in a greenhouse system and implemented automatic irrigation technology to effectively manage the fruit garden. Currently, the cooperative combines production with agricultural tourism, such as harvesting products, recreational fishing, swimming pools, camping, etc.

The whole province has more than 8,400 hectares of land for high-tech cultivation, focusing on clean and organic agricultural models. Clean agricultural products produced according to Organic, VietGAP, and GlobalGAP standards are the main focus of the provincial agricultural sector. This commitment is demonstrated through investments in modern technology and strict management of product quality.

Currently, Binh Duong is the province with the second largest number of agricultural farms in the Southeast region and the fifth in the country. The province's livestock industry has also strongly transformed towards concentration and large-scale, green, environmentally friendly farms. Binh Duong has also achieved many good results in building animal disease-free zones, aiming at export goals.

In addition, the province has issued 31 growing area codes, 13 packaging facility codes and recognized 219 OCOP products ("One Commune One Product" Program), of which 10 products meet 4-star OCOP standards. Promoting the application of high technology and developing agricultural products according to high standards not only helps increase product value but also expands export capabilities to demanding markets.

Driving force for green agriculture

Mr. Pham Van Bong, Director of Provincial Department of Agriculture and Environment, said that circular agriculture is both a mandatory requirement and a driving force towards green, low-cost agriculture, increasing the value chain, contributing to raising awareness, changing outdated farming habits, limiting resource use, reducing greenhouse gas emissions, and reducing environmental pollution... This is the inevitable direction of sustainable agriculture.

Binh Duong has been implementing several advanced agricultural models, including the use of indigenous microorganisms (IMO), water-saving irrigation techniques, and circular production methods. These models not only enhance production efficiency but also contribute to environmental protection and minimize agricultural waste. Notably, more than 90% of livestock wastewater in the province has been treated and reused, while solid waste is collected for composting.

For the circular agricultural economy to genuinely integrate into production and social life, several issues must be addressed. This includes improving mechanisms, policies, and awareness, as well as changing farming habits. Additionally, it is essential to develop circular agriculture that connects product consumption to meet the growing demands of the market.

In the coming time, Provincial Department of Agriculture and Environment will continue to stimulate the development of ecological agriculture, circular economy in agriculture, and practice social responsibility in the production and trading of agricultural products. In that process, producers play a central role, scientists provide and transfer solutions, and state management agencies play a supporting and guiding role.

Provincial Department of Agriculture and Environment is strengthening and diversifying forms of propaganda and training to raise awareness among officials and people about the importance of clean agricultural production; encouraging farmers to change their production practices from manual to technological application. The Department of Agriculture and Environment recommends that agricultural production facilities need to have specialized and closed industrial and agricultural waste treatment systems to create environmentally friendly production and business models.
