Province further takes measures to achieve the set targets on socio-economic development

Provincial leaders focused on instructing sectors and localities to take measures to promote the province’s socio-economic development in the first half of the year, said provincial chairman Nguyen Hoang Son.

As a result, the province’s socio-economic performance saw positive changes with GDP growth by 12.9% compared to the same period of last year. The agricultural-forestry-fisheries sector increased by 2%. The industrial and construction sector registered a growth of 9.6%. Meanwhile, the services sector achieved an increase of 22%.

Garment-textile products still maintain the key role in the province’s export sector

According to the report by provincial People’s Committee, the province’s industrial production value in the first half of 2010 reached VND45.898trillion, up 19% compared to the same period of last year. Of the total figure, State-owned businesses accounted for 2%, non-State businesses 30% and FDI ones 68%. Some industries of textile, electric devices, metals…gained high growth by 23.1%, 53.3%, 24.6%..., respectively.

Whilst, the trade-services sector earned VND19.419trillion, up 28.7% compared to the same period of last year. The whole province also earned US$3.4bln of total export turnover, increasing by 18.5% compared to the corresponding period of last year. Some key export products still maintained growth such as cashew nut (up30.1%), pepper (up 29.5%), rubber (up 21.6%), footwear (up 8.1%)…

The whole province also attracted additional US$561mln in FDI and 1,000 domestic investment projects capitalized at around VND7trillion. Thus, the whole province has so far absorbed 1,951 FDI projects valued at US$13.260bln and 9,600 domestic investment ones with a total registered capital of VND65trillion.

However, the province has faced shortcomings on taking measures to support businesses to remove their obstacles, developing infrastructure-urban services, rotating power cuts, environmental pollution, rural security…for change.

To redress  the above shortcomings and achieve the set targets on socio-economic development for the rest of the year, Mr.Son has instructed sectors and leaders of districts and towns to mainly carry out the central and provincial policies on promoting production and business, stabilizing market prices, curbing inflation and ensuring social welfare.

Sectors and localities also need to pay attention to solving hurdles on power supply for production, taking measures to minimize strikes; further develop the programs for marketing and calling for investment in and out of the country; meet businesses and facilitate their development; have satisfactory solutions on compensation and site clearance for the local people in order to limit complaints in the coming time so that the 9th provincial Party congress will take place successfully.
