Early November 19, provincial People’s Committee Chairman Le Thanh Cung presided over a meeting to approve a report on the province’s socio-economic performance, national defense and security in 2013, orientations and tasks for 2014.
The province’s total gross domestic product (GDP) in 2013 grew by 12.8% and GDP per capita reached VND52.7mln. So far, the province’s economic structure has been shifted with the proportion of 61.3% in industry, 35.3% in services and 3.4% in agriculture. In 2013, the province’s industrial production continued reaching a stable development with total value estimated at more than VND162.17trillion, up 15.1%. Total retail sales value of commodities and services was estimated at more than VND89.54trillion, up 24.3%. Total export turnover was estimated at more than US$14.44bln. The province also lured additional US$1.229bln in FDI capital. So far, the whole province has absorbed 2,206 FDI projects capitalized at US$18.66bln and 15,050 domestic projects with a total registered investment capital of more than VND117.41trillion.
According to the report, the province well realized the Government’s Resolutions No.01 and 02 dated January 07, 2013 on solutions to the implementation of the socio-economic development plan and State budget estimation for 2013 and the solutions to removing difficulties for production and business, supporting the market and handling bad debts. The province also ensured social welfare and maintained social order and security in 2013.
Addressing the meeting, Mr.Cung spoke highly of the province’s achievements done in all aspects in 2013. He also instructed authorities at all levels, agencies and localities to focus on effectively dealing with shortcomings in 2013 and define tasks for 2014, including bending on restructuring the local economy towards the growth of efficiency and competitiveness; attaching special importance to promoting hi-quality trade and services in association with hi-tech and urban agricultural development; enhancing the quality of planning work; attaching special importance to basic construction investment; strengthening the implementation of policies on social welfare, dealing with complaints and appeals, ensuring social safety, order and security, especially before, during and after the Tet (Lunar New Year) holiday.
