Regional minimum salary for enterprises to be increased

In 2011, the regional minimum salary for labourers in domestic and foreign-invested enterprises will be increased, with the new minimum salary higher than the current level, between VND 100,000-370,000.

The new salary level is regulated in two recently-issued decrees of the Government. The first, decree 107/2010/ND-CP, regulates the minimum salary for Vietnamese labourers in foreign-invested enterprises, foreign agencies and organizations, international organizations and foreigners in Vietnam. The second, decree 108/2010/ND-CP, regulates the minimum salary for labourers in domestic enterprises.

As regulated in the first decree, labourers will enjoy the new minimum salary of VND 1.55 million per month in region I, VND 1.35 million in region II, VND 1.170 million in region III and 1.1 million in region IV.

The second decree regulates labourers’ salary of VND 1.35 million per month in region I, VND 1.2 million in region II, VND 1.05 million in region III, and VND 830,000 in region IV.

The two decrees encourage enterprises to apply the higher minimum salary than the regional minimum salary.

The new salary level will be applied from 1 January 2011 and 1 July 2011.
