Early June 25, Mai Hung Dung, Member of provincial Party Standing Committee and Pernament Vice Chairman of provincial People's Committee, received Shigeyuki Sakaki, expert and traffic coordinator from the World Bank (WB) and his delegation. The meeting focused on Binh Duong province’s proposal to the WB to review and complete the master plan for the An Binh Station complex.
At the meeting, representative from the Vietnam Railway Administration stated that An Binh Station is a freight transshipment station between 1,435mm and 1,000mm gauge railways. It is planned to become the main freight station for HCM city, with a vision to organize international intermodal transport. By 2050, An Bình Station is expected to handle approximately 23 million tons of goods and 25 million passengers.
Nguyen Anh Minh, Director of provincial Department of Transport said that in order to meet the economic and social development needs of the Southeastern region in the new phase, Binh Duong province has proposed the Vietnam Railway Administration and WB to consider relocating An Binh Station from the left side of the existing North-South railway line to the right side within the Song Than I Industrial Park, covering an area of about 190 hectares. The new location will facilitate the implementation of related plans in the coming time.
Speaking at the meeting, Mr. Dung expressed his hope that after the meeting and the on-site survey, the WB would consider and provide technical support for the province to complete the planning for An Bình Station. This will contribute to developing An Binh Station into an integrated railway industrial development area, including inland port commercial zones, automotive mechanical service centers, bonded warehouse service centers, etc. This development will facilitate the economic and social growth of the province in particular and the national railway system in general.
