Samsung Vietnam has enlarged its supplier network to 308 entities following concerned efforts made to boost linkages with local firms. In particular, the number of Vietnamese enterprises serving as tier-1 suppliers has risen dramatically from four in 2014 to 35 by the end of 2018. This number is expected to climb to 50 by 2020.

These tier-1 suppliers are currently part of the supply chains of many Samsung factories, including Samsung Electronics Vietnam, Samsung Electronics Vietnam Thai Nguyen, Samsung Electronics Ho Chi Minh City Complex, Samsung Display Vietnam, Samsung SDI Vietnam, and Samsung Electro - Mechanics Vietnam.

Choi Joo-ho assessed that a number of Vietnamese supporting industry companies have shown a strong desire to make improvements and quickly acquire the guidance of Samsung experts.

Local enterprises need to pay close attention to complying with 5S-3D standards and basic production rules, and improving production stages for the sake of higher efficiency, he said. The senior manager elaborated that the most important aspect is to improve the awareness of directors, managers, and employees on innovation.

He went on to say that Samsung has hosted many business consultancy programs in Vietnam, attracting the participation of 60 domestic firms.

Furthermore, Samsung has made joint efforts with the Vietnamese Government to foster the development of local supporting industries through organizing an array of events such as exhibitions and symposiums. These aimed to seek local companies that can fit into Samsung's supply chains.

The Korean technology giant has also been running a training program for 200 Vietnamese consultants dedicated to production and quality improvements.

Samsung are set to extend the program in a bid to help domestic businesses make further improvements to achieve global standards, thus contributing to the overall development of local supporting industries, he noted.
