In the current integration trend, science and technology is a factor with great influence on socio-economic development. The province’s sector of science and technology created considerable development steps over the past time, gradually becoming a direct production force.

Bringing sci-tech advancements to fields

According to experts, Binh Duong’s scientific and technological development in many fields is still humble. But, the sector’s contribution to the local economy always reaches annual growth via total factor productivity (TFP) index. The province’s TFP index was 15.65% in 2010, 29.9% in 2012 and 33.7% in 2016, according to provincial Statistics Department.

Dang Minh Hung, Vice-Chairman of provincial People’s Committee said that the province’s sector of science and technology has made contributions to the local socio-economic development. In the 2010-2015 period, TFP contributed 28.11% to the province’s gross domestic product (GDP) value. Along with bracing up enterprises to apply scientific-technological advancements into production, the province has also strengthened scientific-technological application into the fields of agriculture, information-communications, healthcare, natural resources-environment and transportation.

According to Nguyen Quoc Cuong, Director of provincial Department of Science and Technology, under its project on smart city development, the province has also signed a cooperation agreement with Vietnam Post and Telecommunications Group (VNPT) to deploy some items on telecommunications infrastructure…

Support for scientific-technological development

In fact, applying scientific-technological advancements into production will help enterprises enhance their productivity and competitiveness. The province over the past time implemented programs on scientific-technological support for enterprises, helping them get better results in production and business.

Mr.Cuong said that through the Program on Scientific-Technological Support for the period of 2006-2010 and the period of 2011-2015, the province assisted some enterprises to receive scientific-technological transfer from scientists, institutes and schools in and out of the province with 18 tasks and total cost of more than VND8.4billion.

Since 2005, provincial Department of Science and Technology has authenticated 24 contracts on scientific-technology transfer at home and abroad with a total value of US$40million and VND389.3billion.

Provincial Department of Science and Technology has also implemented support policies on scientific and technological development for enterprises; created favorable conditions for them to get access to national programs on science-technology with the subsidy level of expenditure at 30%, 50% and 100% in each subject and assist their activities of commercializing products for market development.
