Identifying Science – Technology (S&T) as one factor boosting economic development in all fields, in recent years, Department of Science and Technology (DOST) has developed many projects in accordance with the actual situation of localities, units and has achieved good results.

Topics and projects are close to reality
Implementing the program of action of 63-CTr/TU of Provincial Party Committee on the implementation of Resolution No. 20-NQ/TW of the 6th conference of Party Central Committee (6th term) on S&T development for the cause of industrialization and modernization in the socialist-oriented market economy and international integration, activities of scientific research - technological development in the province have been strengthened. In the period 2011 - 2016, the province have implemented 58 new tasks and checked 104 tasks, in which 10 tasks were chosen in 2016.
Mr. Ngo Van Dinh, Deputy Director of DOST, said S&T missions had been deployed in the direction of applications, focused on solving urgent tasks of industries, businesses, practically served socio-economic development. Thereby, contributing to improving productivity, quality, management effectiveness in the field of culture - social, education - training, industrial production - technology ... DOST has also ordered performing S&T to choose projects and tasks with high applicability and have a commitment to use the generated results when the projects are completed.
According to the evaluation, in general, adopted projects have high applicability in accordance with the actual situation of localities, units. Some projects have proved its efficiency, such as project of applying GIS to build up management system of telecommunications network in Binh Duong province; project of applying GIS into urban management in TDM City...
High efficiency
In Tru Van Thố commune, Bau Bang District, the implementation of a project applying advanced technologies into effective intensive farming production of Taiwanese guava trees has proved its high efficiency, from 5.3ha as piloting to 12ha now. Mr. Le Hoang Chau, a household participating in the project, said as one of the first households participating in the project, initially they faced some difficulties. But with the support of DOST and their farming experiences, their Taiwanese guava farm has started to brought profits. Currently, 1ha of guava yields more than 40tons, (initially only 4tons). This is a guava variety having high yields, good quality, quick harvest time (from 3.5 to 4 months) and bear fruit year-round, thus high income.
Meanwhile, since the implementation of the Project of accelerating the information technology application into healthcare works, Phu Giao district Medical Center has made good changes. Medical examination time is decreased significantly. In addition, the interconnection of patient information between divisions happens quickly, thus medical diagnosis, hospital fee payment and medicine dispensing are very convenient to patients.
With the aim to help people in rural areas gain access to S&T via the internet, the project of opening S&T information access points serving socio-economic development in rural areas in a number of communes, wards of the province has been very effective and helped farmers gain access to new knowledge from the internet and then apply into production. Mr. Huynh Van Muoi, in Lai Thieu Ward, Thuan An Town, said owing to the guidance of DOST’s officials and ward Farmers Association, he had known many useful internet addresses to find information. Therefore, his family business of rearing rabbits is stable and has high income.
Mr. Dinh said, along with checking and takeover projects, examination works are also being strengthened. This is a measure to urge organizations and individuals to continue applying, expanding results or supporting tasks, solving difficulties in the process of applying the task results at agencies, enterprises and units.
