Seeking solutions to remove export wood industry’s obstacles

Early August 9, the quarterly conference on the wood processing, wood export and forestry product industries for Q3 2024 was held in Binh Duong. The event was attended by leaders from ministries and central sectors, provincial departments and agencies, businesses from wood processing associations across the country.

Information shared at the conference indicated positive signs for the wood industry, with significant increases in the export of key products. In the first seven months of 2024, export turnover increased by 20.5% compared to the same period in 2023. Notably, wood chip products increased by nearly 38%, and timber and wooden products rose by over 20% compared to the same period last year. However, the Vietnamese wood industry has still faced many challenges from geopolitical fluctuations, freight costs on increase and other internal difficulties.

At the conference, delegates focused on discussing and finding solutions to enhance the competitiveness of businesses based on five main pillars: production techniques, emission reduction, management on digital transformation, trade promotion and the establishment of internal monitoring standards. Wood industry enterprises also expressed their desire to collaborate with ministries and agencies to address trade investigation cases from the United States, update policy information from key export markets, propose acceleration of trade promotion efforts, support for fire prevention and fighting in wood processing factories, management of specialized trade fairs and the development of international-standard trade fairs.
