Goods transport herein became difficult on rainy days, triggering losses for local farmers' farm produce. Meanwhile, agriculture - a main occupation of local people became more difficult. Many local youths moved to other localities to earn a living. Therefore, the islet-based agriculture became a part-time job of local families.However, worries of local leaders and people were ended in 2009 after Thanh Hoi Bridge was opened to traffic. The bridge spanning Dong Nai river links Thanh Hoi islet with mainland and opens many development opportunities for the islet. From here, Thanh Hoi islet's farm produce has been directly transported to markets across province.Tran Kim Quan, vice chairman of Thanh Hoi communal People's Committee said that all have been started since 2010 after Thanh Hoi bridge has been put into use. From 2010 to 2012, Thanh Hoi's roads were asphalted more than 90%. More recently, Thanh Hoi islet's main route has been inaugurated. The main route is hoped to be an impetus for local production and trade exchange. Meanwhile, Thanh Hoi primary school consisting of 20 classrooms offers adequately learning aids for local pupils. Thanh Hoi commune-based many roads have been asphalted.Dao Van No, former chairman of Thanh Hoi communal People's Committee said that 3 years ago some local people grew taro stems experimentally and enjoyed surprised results. With advantaged soil condition and climate, taro stems herein develop well and reach high quality, being loved by customers. Thanh Hoi commune's taro stems have appeared across wholesale markets in HCMC. Tran Kim Quan added that the commune daily exported 5-7 tons of taro stem to markets. Many taro stem growers in the commune said that taro stem can give an income of VND60-80mil per year. Therefore, area of taro stem in the locality has increased constantly with over 50ha of taro stem. This kind of tree has been a main vegetable with a crucial income for local farmers. The communal leaders said that the locality has launched a project of applying technical science into agricultural production. This project has a capital of about VND4bil invested by the Ministry of Science and Technology.
