Due to the complicated Covid-19 situation, the travel demand of passengers to return to their hometown during the Lunar New Year 2022 holiday decreased compared to previous years. However, passenger transport activities took place smoothly and safely during the time before, during and after Tet.
Huynh Van Trong, Director of Binh Duong Bus Station, said that the demand for passengers on the Lunar New Year occasion decreased sharply compared to previous years. Due to the pandemic, many people and workers in provinces and cities stayed in Binh Duong to celebrate Tet. As reported, fixed bus routes to northern provinces from the provincial bus station were canceled, but routes to the central and southwestern provinces remained operational. Specifically, the number of fixed bus trips to the southwest and central provinces was only equal to one third of that on weekdays.
Nguyen Thi Ut, a worker from Vinh Long, said that when she returned to Binh Duong to work after Tet holiday, the bus from Vinh Long to Binh Duong was very empty. Never before has her family had a trip with such an empty bus. Meanwhile, Le Thi Mui lives in Dinh Hoa ward, Thu Dau Mot city, was very happy when she heard that the bus route from the provincial bus station to Mien Dong bus station began to be operational from the fifth day of the Lunar New Year. “Before the pandemic, my family rode motorbikes to the provincial bus station every week and then continue to take the bus to Mien Dong bus station. Bus is a convenient, safe and cost-effective transport mean,” said Mui.
According to provincial Department of Transport, passenger transport activities during the Lunar New Year holiday took place in accordance with the plan to serve the travel demand of people and workers. All units have well complied with regulations and instructions of the authorities, namely, ensuring the "5K" message of the Ministry of Health at the provincial bus station as well as in the process of transporting passengers. Due to the sharp decrease in the number of passengers, there was no congestion, no means of transport exceeded the specified number of passengers, ensuring safety during trips.
