An Thai commune in Phu Giao district faced many difficulties in the initial period of establishment But, after 7 years of development, the commune has become a locality full of potentials.

Thai communal People’s Committee, realizing that the commune’s soil conditions
are suitable to growing perennial trees with hi-economic value, the commune has
focused on promoting the model of growing rubber trees towards a sustainable
agricultural development. To achieve high results, the commune have given more
support on loan, how to tend this kind of tree for the local people,
contributing to step by step improving their livelihood.

Strong change
An Thai commune is now home to around 1,420 hectares of rubber trees with 2011’s total revenue reaching more than VND213bln or 81% of the commune’s economic value.
Rubber trees have contributed to improving the lives of the local people and creating a new rural image. In 2011, the ratio of the local poor households under the new poverty line reduced to 5.96%; more than 99% and 98% of the local households were in use of electricity and clean water, respectively; 13 km of intercommunal roads were covered by asphalt and 23 rural roads with a total length of more than 14.3km were also worked out…
In 2011, the commune’s economic growth reached 13,8%; the average income per capital of the local people was VND20mln, up VND5.5mln compared to that of 2010. The commune will strive to raise the figure to VND22mln or VND25mln by 2012 and VND30mln or VND35mln by 2015.
The commune has also seen improvement in infrastructure in the field of education. So far, the commune’s preschool has achieved the national standards of first degree and the commune has also been recognized as a locality winning universalization in hi-school education. The commune now make efforts towards the recognition of its primary school as a nationally standardized school in the 2012 and 2013 school year.
Mr.Huu said that the above results came from the great efforts of the local government and people. Also according to him, An Thai commune will further gain stronger development when successfully applying high technologies in agricultural production. This will be a premise for An Thai to become a bright spot on modern agricultural development.
