With passionate in agriculture, Tran Quoc Huan, living in Lac An commune’s hamlet 2 in North Tan Uyen district has developed a home-based economic model on his family's land and garden from growing pomelo to raising fish. On a chance to discover the strange and beautiful Da Loc lotus, he found out and then determined to successfully grow this kind of flower. He hopes that the model will develop effectively, be well received and replicated.
Under Huan’s instructions, passing through the green pomelo gardens, we came to the Da Loc lotus garden of this passionate farmer. Just skillfully, carefully weeding under the flowers, he said that this kind of flower must be weeded very carefully. A flower will be considered to be damaged if its new sprout is touched. “I have got involved in this flower model for 2 years. At first, I grew this kind of flower because it was simply beautiful and strange. Later, realizing its potential for economic development, I have determined to make investment. After failing in the initial time, I have spent more time on researching and learning successful models about this kind of flower. So far, Da Loc lotus in his garden is stable with standard color”.

As of now, with more than 2,000 square meters of his family's land, Mr. Huan has grown 700 flower bushes. For the first year, one bush produces about 50 flowers and it will make 150-200 flowers from the second year. This is a kind of terrestrial lotus, but it needs adequate watering. With suitable soil, favorable irrigation, this kind of flower has grown well on Lac An land. If having good care, it will begin producing bright red flowers after 8 months,. Da Loc lotus has the advantage of keeping for a long time. It can be shown for 5-7 days with unchanged color.
Da Loc lotus has the meaning of luck, symbolizes wealth and nobility, so it is very suitable for home decoration or on holidays and Tet. In addition, Da Loc lotus can also be used as a medicinal herb, soaked in wine into a precious remedy. Although being meaningful and valuable, its price is suitable for all customers. Huan's garden is providing the market with the price of VND 10,000 - VND15,000 per flower. “In the locality, this kind of flower is quite new. Moreover, people are familiar with other flowers. I will be persistent to introduce it to customers because we need to have time to change customers' habits," said Mr. Huan.
Sharing about his future plan, Mr. Huan said that he is currently looking for land to expand. He only dares accept orders from small customers. This is because with the limited land area like now. Many customers wanted to order 500 flowers or more, with stable commitment from him. But, his garden has not yet met the requirement. With favorable factors in terms of breeding, soil-weather, water source, Da Loc lotus is very easy to grow, so Mr. Huan expects to succeed with the first new flower in the locality, contributing to income increase and homeland construction.
Vo Thanh Nhan, Chairman of Lac An communal Farmers' Association said: “He is the first person to grow Da Loc lotus in North Tan Uyen district. Although still facing difficulties to access the local market, Mr. Huan is persistent and enterprising to succeed with his favorite model. The commune has also supported and created conditions for him to rent more land to expand the model."
Most farmers do small-scale production, but many home-based economic models have contributed to changing people’s lives and promoting the local development. When Tet comes, I believe that Da Loc lotus will be chosen by many customers, not only beautifying the living space, but also bringing luck and fortune to every home."
