Synchronous measures needed for hi-tech agricultural development

The quick and effective development of urban and hi-tech agriculture in association with building new countryside is one of the province’s key tasks between 2011 and 2015. And many synchronous measures are needed to achieve the target…

Urban and hi-tech agriculture under forming, but…

According to Le Van Rum, director of provincial Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, the proportion of agricultural, forestry and fisheries sector has seen reduction in province’s economic structure, but the sector’s annual growth has still reached 4.7% between 2006 and 2010.

Consumption market is a decisive sector for agricultural development

In terms of cultivation, there have appeared more and more new models on growing orchids, ornamental plants, safe vegetables... Many households and companies have also invested hi-tech-based cultivation models. Some fruit trademarks like Phuong Uyen, Thanh Thuy…have been granted the certificate of brand name registration by the Department of Intellectual Properties and got contracts for exporting and buying products at the Metro Supermarket.

The sector has also got more than 75% of pig herd and 20% of poultry herd bred under modern technologies. Many large-scaled breeding companies with closed and modern process have been set up across the province, including Kim Long Co.Ltd., Dai Viet Co.Ltd., Gia Nam Co.,…

In addition, the province has paid attention to socio-economic infrastructure to promote agriculture and rural development, narrowing the gap between urban and rural areas. The average income per capita in the countryside now reaches VND16mln/year; 95% of rural houses get solid construction; 100% of rural households enjoy audio-visual equipment and means of transport; there are more than 20% of trained laborers; rural economy has shifted towards industry and services.

…Lack of human resources

According to Mr.Rum, urban and hi-tech agriculture is a new field, so it requires many important resources for development, including investment capital, sci-tech and highly-skilled staff. But, these resources over time saw weakness and shortage. The sector’s socio-economic infrastructure has not yet met requirements of urban and hi-tech agriculture because of many shortcomings for change.

Building up a new countryside is the industrialization and modernization process of agricultural and rural development. This requires the efforts of the political system and the consensus among all walks of life in the province…

Measures needed

To achieve the development targets of urban and hi-tech agriculture between 2011 and 2015, the province’s agricultural sector needs to make synchronous improvement in both quantity and quality. Particularly, urban and hi-tech agriculture needs to be applied with biological technology, automatic technology, information technology…The sector also needs to link agriculture with rapid growth of industry and services; link the task of building up new countryside with urban development.

Also according to Mr.Rum, the sector needs to further strengthen the Party’s leadership, State administration and uphold the strength of social-political mass organizations in the countryside; simultaneously work out planning for new countryside development and industrial, service and urban development to promote agriculture and rural development; map out specific policies to encourage organizations and individuals making investment in the field…
