The seven-year period was not long, but it was a great landmark for TDM town today to look back a journey with challenges, but also lots of successes. During the development process, the city has affirmed its role as a trade-services hub with firm paces, creating the momentum for it to develop into a first-class city in the near future.

“Currently, TDM city has a lot of changes. The city has promoted the socialization of investment for markets, supermarkets and trade centers; attached special importance to controlling over the market, maintaining order and security, creating favorable conditions for small traders to develop their business activities”, Ly Thi Cai, a small trade at TDM market said.

After being recognized as a third-class city in 2007, TDM city has created strong changes during the development process, affirming its role as a trade-services hub of the province. The growth of the city’s trade-services has always reached and exceeded the set targets. In 2014 alone, the city’s total retail sales revenue of commodities and services reached more than VND50trillion or 100.3% of the yearly plan and up 30.6% compared to 2013. In the period of 2012 and 2013, the local value of trade-services gained VND30trillion a year with the average growth of 28% a year…
TDM city is also a locality with the presence of many top brand names at home and abroad, namely Toyota, Honda, Prudential, AIA, Vinamilk, ChocoPie…Financial-banking activities herein are also very animated with a total of 39 credit organizations, tens of transaction offices and saving funds, including BIDV, Vietcombank, Vietinbank, Eximbank…
In addition, the city is home to 3 trade centers and more than 10 supermarkets, contributing to generating jobs for laborers, stabilizing market price and increasing the local State budget collection.
There is also a quick development in terms of services, ranging from transportation to post-telecommunications…Besides, the city now has tens of hotels and motels, welcoming tens of thousands of visitors annually.
With such development, TDM city has affirmed its important role in socio-economic development, greatly contributing to the province’s economic structure shift process.
Upholding advantages of a central city
Binh Duong has mapped out its program on urban development for the 2010-2015 period and vision towards 2020 with the goal of becoming a centrally-controlled municipality by 2020.
Accordingly, Binh Duong in general and TDM city in particular will focus on economic development, investment attraction and human resource training. TDM city will promote eco-tourist sites, urban areas along Saigon river and pay attention to environmentally friendly industry, services and urban development.
In the following years, the city will further uphold its inner force to carry out the province’s development goals. The city has put forward specific orientations after being recognized as a second-class city. Accordingly, the city will improve the quality of trade activities towards civilization and modernity; concentrate on upgrading and building supermarkets, plazas and markets under the plan; bring into full play advantages of a central city to further absorb investment projects, mobilize all economic sectors to get involved in financial-banking services…
The city will also promote services, especially ones on basic investment consultancy; attach special importance to new rural development services; absorb all economic sectors to make investment in Hoa Phu new urban center, eco-urban areas under the plan and hi-quality services like telecommunications, finance-banking, real estate trading…
Thus, with methodical investment, a long-term vision and sustainable development norms, TDM city has taken initiative in all work to step by step reach criteria of a first-class city in 2017.
