Thanh Tuyen commune in Dau Tieng district now has three fourths of the total natural land used for growing rubber trees, bringing the local people a big income. But, the commune has got involved in development of fruit orchards to avoid depending too much on rubber trees.
Worry about rubber trees
Thanh Tuyen commune’s total perennials growing area is only
4,278 hectares, but up to 4,555 hectares of which are rubber trees. In recent
years, rubber trees have brought hi-economic efficiency, so the local people
have attached special importance to developing this kind of tree.

Currently, Thanh Tuyen is home to two rubber plantations, namely Ben Suc and Phan Van Tien, with a total rubber tree-growing area of 2,867 hectares. The remaining 1,288 hectares of rubber tree are grown by the local people.
According to Luu Vinh Quoc, vice-chairman of the communal People’s Committee, rubber tree brings hi-economic value, but the prices of rubber latex has recently plunged, making the local people feel worried. The income of the local rubber growers is now only equivalent to one fourth compared that of last year.
To avoid depend too much on rubber tree, people in Thanh Tuyen have begun thinking of a change in plant structure. They have been encouraged to develop many other trees, especially fruit trees with hi-economic efficiency.

Lying along Sai Gon river, Thanh Tuyen commune is very suitable to foster fruit orchards.
Many kinds of fruit trees like mangosteen, durian…also appeared in the commune 30 years ago. But in recent 10 years, the local people have actually discovered that this land is very appropriate for growing fruit trees.
Mangosteens herein also are such delicious as those in Lai Lieu and other famous regions. Hence, the local people have rushed to grow this kind of tree with hi-economic efficieny.
The whole commune now has more than 40 hectares of mangosteens. Mangosteens herein are also known by many people and have built up a trademark with the second prize at the 2011 southern fruit contest.
It is known that Thanh Tuyen has been zoned for developing of an area specializing in fruits cultivation. The local people have searched and learnt know-hows for growing and tending fruits with hi-economic value like mangosteen, durian…With this plus favorable location, Thanh Tuyen will be a locality with strong development in ecological min the future.
