Starting from 1,000 pigs, Dong Cheo hamlet of Lai Uyen commune in Bau Bang district has now 11 farms with nearly 20,000 pigs. At the present, Dong Cheo is a highlight of breeding.
With advantages such as large area, thinly populated, Dong Cheo is optimal for building large pig farms far away from residential areas. Swine breeding has been developed at Dong Cheo hamlet for 10 years, but has prospered recently. Farm owners here are very interested in the environment by utilizing waste through biogas trenches.

Mr. Chien and his swine herd.
According to farmer Nguyen Quoc Chien, previously, swine breeding in Dong Cheo was mostly in small scale, thus productivity was not high. In recent years, local government has planned to make Dong Cheo to be a region gathering pig breeding farms. Thence, farmers have invested in production. Mr. Chien has now more than 700 pigs and earns monthly over VND20mln.
According to Mr. Chien, concentration breeding combined with providing breeding outsourcing has brought benefits to farmers, because breeds, foodstuff, medicines, techniques are supplied by companies. Farmers providing breeding outsourcing only incur costs of setting up farm, efforts to take care of swine herds. Outputs are also ensured by companies, so farmer’s income is stable.
Farmer Le Minh Thanh, who has the largest quantity of swine in Dong Cheo hamlet, said, he has never want to quit this job, despite many ups and downs. Furthermore, he will continue expand his farm after his hamlet became a concentration breeding locality.
Many farmers are also planning for improving their swine farms, especially becoming cold breeding farms. This is a modern form, which can reduce diseases and environmental effects.
However, there are also difficulties. Farms have to use single-phase electric current, and muddy paths to farms. Mr. Tran Xuan Hoa, head of Dong Cheo hamlet, said, living standard of local people has been improved thanks to breeding. Farmers are also rear chickens and oxen for meat. At the present, rubber latex is going down, farmers can no longer rely on only rubber trees. Therefore, breeding is good way to develop. In addition, attention and supports from the government are in need.
Thanks to proper development encouraging policies, growing of concentration breeding at Dong Cheo hamlet can increase farmer’s income as well as living standard.
