The hustle Tet commodity markets

According to representatives of supermarkets and trade centers in the province, the purchasing power in the markets during Tet holiday is increasing day by day, and the source of goods to serve consumer demand is guaranteed at good prices.

Purchasing power greatly increases

On the shelves of some supermarkets such as Co.opmart, BigC, Aeon Mall Binh Duong Canary, and MM Mega Market in Binh Duong these days are full of confectionery products, soft drinks, foods, dried food etc. ready to serve consumer demands. In order to increase sales and boost purchasing power, staff of brands and supermarket have increased direct marketing to serve customers during the Lunar New Year. Mr. Thai Thanh Nhan, Head of Fresh Food at BigC Binh Duong, confirmed that BigC's retail system has started the peak business of Tet 2 weeks ago. Currently, the number of customers coming to shop at supermarkets is gradually increasing, which is expected to increase very strongly by the end of this week.

Mr. Duong Bao Khuong, Deputy Director of Co.opmart Binh Duong 1, said that at Co.opmart, customer demand is increasing, not only for fashion products, cosmetics, and household items but also for other products. In addition, the product lines serving Tet such as dried food, candies, and soft drinks also experienced outstanding growth. “In terms of fresh food, we estimate that consumer demands during Tet holiday will grow by about 20% compared to the same period last year. In order to satisfy customers' tastes, Co.opmart will provide many Tet products at good prices to stimulate people to shop," said Mr. Duong Bao Khuong.

At MM Mega Market Binh Duong, the number of customers coming to shop these days has increased compared to normal days. Mr. Nguyen Ky Kiep, Director of MM Mega Maket Binh Duong, said that the average daily sales increase by more than 50% compared to weekdays; in particular, the last 2 days of the week it reached an increase of 70%. High growth in sales is focal on essential products for Tet such as confectionery, beer, beverage, fresh and processed food, and kitchen utensils. For fresh pork products, the current selling price at the supermarket has not changed as the supply is proactive and guaranteed to be abundant without scarcity.

Noting that stable prices are the cause of increasing purchasing power, supermarkets and trade centers in the province in recent days have offered many promotional programs with discounts up to 49% to support consumers in Tet shopping.

Proactive supplies

According to statistics of the Department of Industry and Trade, currently 97 traditional markets, 11 supermarkets, 221 convenience stores and thousands of retail stores are in operation in the province meeting the consumer shopping needs. At the end of the year and the Lunar New Year, it is forecast that the total circulation of retail goods in the province will increase by about 20-30% compared to the other months of the year. According to the forecasts of retail businesses in this year as there is still concern about the epidemic, a large part of workers will not return to their hometown, so the goods supply units have been proactively planning to ensure sufficient resources to serve the market needs.

Mr. Duong Bao Khuong said that the total value of goods that Saigon Co.op prepared before, during and after Tet was about VND 6,000 billion. In particular, for the group of essential goods, besides stockpiling, the supermarket also focuses on linking and signing a memorandum of understanding with suppliers to ensure that the supplying chain is not broken in all situations. Along with that, the supermarket had a program "Tet away from home and closer" to promote many benefits for thousands of items to stimulate consumption in order to bring consumers quality goods at the most preferential prices.

Mr. Nguyen Ky Hiep also said that from October 2021, purchasing power has increased once again. To take the initiative in all situations, the supermarket has ordered more goods. Currently, the supermarket has contracted with 4 major suppliers in the groups of fresh foods, vegetables, fruits, and seafood with high reserves. Goods circulate every day and are closely regulated with the actual demand of the market. “We always ensure the source of quality products from farming to the locality and always have discounts on thousands of essential consumer goods. In particular, we do not compromise to increase prices with suppliers when the market is in a sensitive stage. Commodity prices at MM Mega Market are very stable,” said Mr. Nguyen Ky Hiep.

Mr. Pham Phu Hien, Director of Lottemart Binh Duong supermarket, said that to ensure food quality and safety, commodities on sales at the supermarket are strictly inspected and controlled. Goods must meet the requirements of a common set of standards on food safety and price stability and maintain supplies during the Lunar New Year.
