Supply increases

At this time, most businesses, supermarkets, and shopping centers in the province are actively stocking up goods, with an increase of 2-3 times compared to the previous months, to meet increasing shopping demand at the end of old year and the 2023 Lunar New Year. Records show that retail systems, such as BigC, Co.opmart, MM Mega..., are racing to stockpile their shelves to attract shoppers.

Co.opmart Binh Duong has increased their stockpile by 30 - 50%, the strongest increase is of fresh food products (vegetables, fruits, meats), and soft drinks, beers...

Duong Bao Khuong, Deputy Director of Co.opmart Binh Duong, said that since the middle of the year Saigon Co.op has coordinated with production units and suppliers to increase the quantity of essential goods from 2-4 times to actively ensure their supply to regulate the price of Tet products. Saigon Co.op also increased the frequency of product quality control, especially the food group.

In the same trend, the supermarket retail system of GO& BigC Binh Duong and Di An have spent over VND88 billion to stockpile essential products for the 2023 Tet market, of which VND20 billion are spent on fresh foods, VND66 billion on technological foods and essential items.

Thai Thanh Nhan, Head of Fresh Food Department of GO& BigC Binh Duong, said that the supermarket has stocked up on a full range of beer, wine, beverage, frozen goods, dried food, confectionery, milk tea, fruit...

From now until Tet holiday, fresh food products, semi-processed and ready-to-eat foods, fruits, beverages, regional specialties, and imported products etc. all have discount promotions to stimulate Tet shopping demand.

In addition to the preparation of retailers, producers, who are cooperatives in fields of commerce, service, and agriculture in the province, have developed plans for adequate source of goods for the Tet market.

Melon growing farm of Kim Long Hi-tech Agriculture Cooperative (An Binh commune, Phu Giao district) is promising a bumper crop this year to supply to the market. Nguyen Hong Quyet, Director of Kim Long Cooperative, said: “This year, the market situation has some fluctuations, but the cooperative tries to keep the most stable selling price, bringing to the market products that are not only delicious but also beautiful.

The cooperative has signed sales contracts with traders and will supply more than 150 tons of melons to the market during the Tet holiday. People in the province will enjoy good fruits at affordable prices.”

Keep the market stable

While the price of many products is still at a high level, is volatile because of gasoline prices, intermediaries’ costs, etc., keeping the market price stable is supported by not only retail businesses but also localities and agencies in the province.

Currently, 9 districts, towns and cities in the province are also implementing plans to stock up essential goods at conventional markets to serve people’s shopping demand before, during and after Tet holiday.

It is expected that there would be a total of about 1,466 tons of food, 2,953 tons of processed food, 820 tons of fresh food, with a total value of about 225 billion VND for the stockpile of the whole province.

As a relatively high populated locality, Di An City has built a plan on the supply of goods, the number of selling addresses to stabilize prices at the end of this year and during the Lunar New Year. Vo Anh Tuan, Vice Chairman of Di An City People's Committee, said that the city's departments are currently implementing a plan to supply goods to businesses and 10 markets.

Accordingly, the city urges and supports businesses, closely coordinates with relevant departments in the implementation of the local Tet plan. The city continues to coordinate and support activities to connect supply and demand, find new sources of potential products and specialties to serve people's demands.

According to Vo Anh Tuan, with an early plan and effort of businesses, this year's Tet products would be abundant in quantity, stable in price, and ensure the balance of supply and demand, will not have shortage of goods, speculation, unusual price increase.

Other localities and provincial medical, agriculture and rural development, and market management branches are all planning to actively control the market price on Tet holiday.

Nguyen Phuong Dong, Deputy Director of Binh Duong Market Management Department, said that in order to proactively control the situation, detect, prevent timely and strictly handle violations, contribute to protecting the legitimate interests of consumers, the Provincial Department of Market Management developed a peak of anti-smuggling, commercial fraud and counterfeiting in the last months of 2022, the time before, during and after the Lunar New Year 2023; strengthen local management, market control, focus on essential products with high consumption demand during the year-end and Tet holidays such as confectionery, fruit, wine, beverage, etc.

In particular, the authorities strengthen inspection and strictly handle acts of transporting and trading firecrackers and fireworks of all kinds, and closely monitor trading activities of petroleum, liquefied petroleum gas, in order to ensure market stability at the end of the year.
