In order to facilitate socio-economic development, the upgrade of commercial infrastructure has always been of interest to Thu Dau Mot City. Therefore, in the city, there are many new and renovated markets, spontaneous markets are rearranged or cleared. Currently, there are 13/15 markets in the city that have been socialized, businesses participate in management and investment in these markets. In modern commercial and service system, the city has supermarkets, shopping centers such as Big C, Co.opmart, MM.Megamarket Vietnam... Besides, hundreds of mini department stores have appeared and developed in accordance with the city planning.
It can be said that supermarkets and commercial centers have made an important contribution to stabilizing market prices, especially essential items serving the people. For a long time, the majority of citizens have chosen supermarkets and commercial centers to go shopping. Supermarkets and shopping centers focus on many items, from household items, essential goods, to food, which are very convenient for consumers. Moreover, some shopping centers combine food service with entertainment, sports to meet the people’s demands as the living standard is increasing.
To strive for high quality
In fact, the commercial infrastructure system of Thu Dau Mot City has contributed step by step with the province to form a smooth distribution channel in the direction of civilization and professionalism, applied high standards of safety, food hygiene, traceability, fire prevention, environmental hygiene... to serve the requirements of production and daily-life activities. In particular, the commercial infrastructure system has a strong shift from traditional commercial system to modern commercial infrastructure. Commercial-service clusters in central wards, such as specialized stores, convenience stores, utilities, create a chain of retail systems, contributing to quite comprehensively changing the face of the city and stimulating commercial, goods flow.
However, according to Nguyen Thu Cuc, Chairwoman of Thu Dau Mot City People's Committee, the commercial infrastructure system of the city has not developed comprehensively, retail system has grown rapidly but unevenly distributed, especially in the western and northwest wards of the city. The mobilization of social resources to invest in the development is not commensurate with the available resources. In particular, the renovation and rearrangement of Thu Dau Mot market (class-one market) is still difficult and some privately invested markets are not highly efficient. Some commericial-service-urban projects face difficulties, prolonged investment process affects people's lives, some infrastructure works were executed slowly.
In the socio-economic development plan 2021-2030, Thu Dau Mot City continues to develop commercial sector by encouraging the particpation of many economic sectors, giving priority to the development of commercial electronics, distribution centers, wholesale supermarkets for competitive products of the province to encourage faster and more effective development. At the same time, the city continues to invest in infrastructure to attract economic sectors to developing high-end services, call for investment in large projects...
In order to achieve the above-mentioned objectives and complete tasks, Thu Dau Mot City directs industries and units to improve the quality of some service sectors with advantages and implement well commercial development policies in the area. In addition, the city invests in upgrading the commercial-service infrastructure system, developing supermarkets and commercial centers. In particular, the city upgrades the conventional market network to gradually make good balance between supply and demand. "In particular, the focus is on Thu Dau Mot market to be upgraded and renovated according to orientations in 2020-2025 period. Besides, the city focuses on the planning and rearranging markets in the direction of civilized order and urban aesthetics in order to realize the goal of high-quality commerce-service", Nguyen Thu Cuc, said.
