Issues of environment and community health are both a concern and a burden at developing nations. As a locality luring strongly foreign investment sources, Binh Duong in 2003 prepared early for measures of water environment improvement. By effort and determination concerted by mass bodies, sectors and localities, the project was ratified earlier than other projects because the province’s Dong Nai and Sai Gon rivers offer water for HCMC and neighboring provinces and cities.
In the period of industrial development in attachment to urban development, improvement of water environment is a crucial requirement. Therefore, the improvement of water environment in Thu Dau Mot city in particular and Binh Duong in general has a great significance to enhance quality of community living.
According to commitment signed between Vietnam and Japan, project of water environment improvement in Thu Dau Mot city will end by July 2016. However, until now the work has been completed over 90% of its items. The finalized items include waste water treatment factory’s 1st phase with a capacity of 16,000cubic meters per day and night.
To economize time and cost, the project’s investor focuses on building factories of waste water treatment and items on low land areas at the same time. It is expected that the work will be put into use by the end of 3rd quarter of 2013.
Binh Duong Environment and Water Supply Company director Nguyen Van Thien, the investor of the project, said the project’s biggest achievement is technology and vision and planning, thanks to common effort between Vietnamese and Japanese governments as well as relevant agencies.
Thanks to completion ahead of schedule, Japanese government agreed to support for the project’s 2nd phase prior to plan. This means that Binh Duong will be a civilized, modern and environmentally friendly city ahead of schedule. In addition, completion ahead of schedule helped the investor save nearly 9% of building cost and Japanese donor allowed the investor to use the saved money into investment and expansion of the project to other places under Thu Dau Mot city.
