2014 is the second year that Thu Dau Mot (TDM) Electricity has implemented the movement “Cultural quarters save power”. The movement has brought significant results, saved power worth VND23.42 billion. This result was considered as the leading one by provincial Department of Industry and Trade.

Right from the beginning of year 2014, TDM Electricity formed a steering committee of power saving to direct the power saving implementation. The target was saving at least 2.1% compared to the commercial power amount of the locality, namely: Register electricity saving plans; disseminate power saving so that each official became propagandist, exemplary one of power saving; 100% employees responded to Earth Hour. On 7th May 2014, TDM Electricity launched the program “Cultural quarters save power” throughout the city. The movement was supported by provincial Department of Industry and Trade, Binh Duong Electricity Company, People’s Committees of TDM City, wards, and many customers…
After 8 months, up to then end of December 2014, there were 1,768 households practicing power saving. Total saved electricity was 1.3 million kWh, equivalent to VND2.26 billion.
Practical results
During 2014, TDM Electricity delivered 444.2 million kWh of commercial electricity with total electrical energy loss of 4.96%, average electricity price of VND1,740.63/kWh. The unit 13.458 million kWh of electricity, achieving 140% target, equivalent to VND23.42 billion.
Mr. Chu Mai Son - Head of Quarter 8 (Tan An ward, TDM City), which is one leading quarter in the power saving movement, said: “I found this program was really useful. Saving power means saving money for our family, thus I always try be an example to the quarter”.
Mr. Do Thanh Linh, who is living at Hiep An ward and was praised by municipal People’s Committee for power saving, shared his experiences, his family had 4 people and used all kinds of devices, such as: water pumps, rice cooker, electronic iron, air conditioner…, but still saved power, because of dodging peak hours, ironing clothes for the whole family at the same time, closing all doors as turning on air conditioner, not turning down temperature of air conditioner too low…
TDM City People’s Committee conferred certificate of merits upon 7 collectives and 63 individuals practicing well power saving, proving efficiency and strong growth of the movement.
According to TDM Electricity Director Vo Minh Duc, in 2014, the unit deployed widely this program and received positive supports from Department of Industry and Trade, People’s Committees of TDM City, wards, quarters. In 2015, the program will be strengthened towards quality and effectiveness improving.
