Over the past years, Thuan An town’s urbanization process took place very rapidly, making the local farming land be narrowed. In the face of the situation, the town attached special importance to urban agricultural models towards sustainable development.
With a great passion on apricot, Luu Ngoc Cuong in Binh Nham ward’s Binh Hoa quarter has so far developed a garden with hundreds of apricot trees worth billions of dong. On average, he can secure nearly VND400million from apricot business on the annual Tet (Lunar New Year) festival.

Meanwhile, Tran Anh Tuan in Hung Tho quarter is very successful with the model of growing mokara orchids. He is now the owner of a mokara orchid garden of more than 2,000 square meters with total investment of VND350million. Till now, he has possessed more than 5,000 various moraka orchid trees…
He is also a member of Dat Thu Orchid Cooperative. His orchid products are mainly supplied to the cooperative and the remainder for orchid shops near his house. Every year, he can earn around VND120million in profit from his orchid garden.
The town is now home to many urban agricultural models with hi-economic efficiency. According to the town’s Division of Economics, the town is maintaining and fostering plants, animals in line with the urbanization trend. The town also pays attention to animal husbandry under the urban agricultural trend.
Possibly speaking, the town over the past time made orientations on urban agricultural development among farmers, contributing to promoting the local emulation movement of “good farmer in production and business”. In the 2017-2019 period, the whole town had a total of 206 farming households winning the title of “good farmer” at town level. Many outstanding individuals, namely Tran Van Vien in An Son commune, Tran Minh Vu in Vinh Phu ward, Nguyen Van Tuan in An Thanh…, were also discovered from the emulation movement.
Urban agricultural development is seen as an appropriate way of the town at present. With the way, the local farmers not only take full advantage of their narrow area to suitably make the shift of plants and animals with high economic efficiency, but also contribute to generating jobs for farmers.
Nguyen Thuy Minh Chi, Chairwoman of Thuan An town’s Farmers Association said that since early this year, the association has coordinated with the town’s Agricultural Promotion Station, Plant Protection-Cultivation Station and Division of Economics to organize 39 training courses on sci-tech transfer in cultivation and animal husbandry for 1,210 farmers. The association has also teamed up with the South Inter-district Agricultural Promotion Station to organize 6 training courses on urban agriculture; worked with the town’s Plant Protection-Cultivation Station to support 2 net-house models on orchid growing for farmers in An Thanh ward…, thereby helping the local farmers get a sustainable, effective and suitable way in agricultural development.
