Thuan An is a key economic area of the province and the region with rapid industrialization and urbanization process. There was an increase in the number of immigrant laborers along with rampancy of street markets over the past time, making the locality face difficulties in ensuring food safety. Thanks to the integral efforts of authorities at all levels, the town’s task of ensuring food safety reached good results.

Nguyen Van Chau, Chairman of Thuan An town’s People’s Committee said that over the past five years, the local authorities at alll levels paid more attention to food safety. As a result, there were changes in awareness of food safety among organizations and individuals.

During the period, Thuan An town granted 1,385 certificates of food safety to facilities meeting conditions on food safety; dealt with 5 businesses and customers’ complaints pertaining to the production and trade of fake food. The town also found out 12 wrong cases with a total fine of VND31.3mln; destroyed unhygienic food; opened training courses on food safety for more than 10,000 people…
According to Vo Thanh Quan, Chairman of Vinh Phu ward’s People’s Committee, the ward well realized a task of food safety and hygiene over the past time. Nguyen Thi Hoa, a resident in the ward said that she felt very joyful when the local government intensified inspection on food safety at production facilities over the past time, helping ensure safety for customers’ health.

Thuan An town is now home to 3 industrial parks, 2 industrial compounds, 17 markets, 6 supermarkets-plazas, 2,500 firms and 18,350 individual business households, in which there are 1,588 food processing and trading facilities.
