Defining science and technology (sci-tech) is one of factors to promote socio-economic development, so Thuan An town over the past years boosted sci-tech application into each field, bringing hi-economic efficiency.

Truong Cong Thach, Deputy Head of Thuan An town’s Division of Economics said that over the past time, implementing projects on setting up, managing and developing “Lai Thieu mangosteen” collective brand name; improving the efficiency of orchards in 6 communes, wards along Saigon river…contributed to enhancing the quality of the local mangosteens.

The town also gave sci-tech support for the local orchid-planting households. Thanks to receiving sci-tech transfer from the town’s Agricultural Promotion Center and Plant Protection Station, Vo Hieu Trung in An Son commune’s An Phu hamlet enjoyed a lot of advantages in orchid growing with each harvest’s profit of between VND5million and VND7million.
Till now, most farmers in the town have applied sci-tech advancements into cultivation and animal husbandry. Applying the town’s sci-tech advancements into fields on health, education, environment…has also upheld their efficiency.
Under the Resolution No.20-NQ/TW of the 11th Party Central Committee dated November 1, 2012 on “Development of science and technology to serve the cause of industrialization and modernization in conditions of socialist-oriented market economy and international integration”, the town has carried out 12 projects on sci-tech research; implemented breakthrough results in sci-tech application and development.
Effectively implementing key programs
However, applying sci-tech advancements into fields in Thuan An town has still encountered obstacles for change.
For better development, the town will extend key programs and projects to serve sustainable socio-economic development; further realize socialization in sci-tech development; encourage businesses to take initiative in making scientific research and investment, applying results from this into production and business; map out a plan on effectively using capital for sci-tech development…
The town will also intensify personnel training for units that are responsible for sci-tech implementation; continue improving management policies over sci-tech activities in association with results that must practically serve people’s production and daily life as well as State administration.
