Many farming households in Thuan An town have got involved in the models of cultivating crops and vegetables; raising pythons, crocodiles…, bringing high economic efficiency. The models are suitable to the town’s orientation for urban agricultural development, so they have received more attention from the local authorities at all levels.
Success from raising pigeons
In recent 3 years, Tran Minh Dung residing at Phu Hoi quarter, Vinh Phu ward, Thuan An town has been very successful with the model of raising pigeon breeds originating in France and Thailand.
On average, his
family supplies more than 400 pairs of pigeons for many restaurants in Binh
Duong and HCM city every month. The model brings his family the annual income
of around VND300mln.

According to Dung, breeding this kind of bird is also very simple. A facility of more than 100 sq.m can breed around 1,000 pairs of pigeons with a total investment capital of around VND400mln.
It is known that Thuan An town’s Farmers’ Association has also regularly organized trips to Dung’s house, helping members to visit and learn about his effective model of raising pigeons.
Changing to appropriate models
As surveyed, many urban agricultural models in Thuan An town, including the model of growing safe vegetables in net-houses in wards of An Thanh, Hung Dinh, Binh Nham and An Son commune; the model of breeding pigeons, frogs, eals in wards of Vinh Phu, An Thanh…, have brought the local farmers high economic efficiency.
According to Tran Ngoc Phuong, Chairman of Thuan An town’s Farmers Association, the whole town now has nearly 200 households getting involved in the models of urban agricultural production. The association is making efforts to replicate effective models, helping the local farmers change to new animals and plants that are in line with new production conditions and bring high economic efficiency.
Over the past time, authorities at all levels of Thuan An town well realized propaganda work among farmers while helping them share mutual experience in doing suitable urban agricultural models…The whole town has so far organized 218 cooperative groups on animal cultivation, cultivation, services…This has helped the local farmers know more about the models of hi-quality urban agriculture for the shift of plant and animal structure corresponding to the local orientation on urban agricultural development.
