To develop environment integrated industrial parks

Many industrial parks in the province have become strong brands to attract a good deal of large businesses and multinational corporations coming to invest. However, to continue to maintain attraction for investors in the coming time, Binh Duong will upgrade existing industrial parks to become smarter, and at the same time plan new industrial parks towards modernity, ecological security and sustainability.

To create clean ground

Recently, Binh Duong provincial People's Council approved the planning project of VSIP 3 industrial park (of phase 2) of more than 800 hectares and Cay Truong industrial park of 700 hectares. VSIP 3 is planned as a multi-industry park with priority given to exploiting high-tech industries associated with service centers. Cay Truong Industrial Park is also planned to become a multi-industry one with various types of industries attracting investment projects according to the socio-economic development orientation of the province.

Currently, VSIP 3 has planned a phase 1 construction zone on an area of more than 196 hectares for more than 30 projects. Among them, the children's toy factory project of Lego Group (from Denmark) has a total investment of more than USD 1.3 billion.

Compared to the whole country, Binh Duong currently accounts for 9% in quantity and 13% in industrial park area. To date, the total number of industrial parks planned in the province is 33 with a total planning area of 14,790 hectares. Currently, 29 industrial parks have been established on a total planned area of more than 12,662 hectares. Of these, 28 industrial parks have been put into operation with a total area of 11,962.81 hectares; 1 industrial park (Cay Truong industrial park) is under infrastructure investment procedures for a total area of 700 hectares.

It can be seen that the current land fund of industrial parks in Binh Duong has reached a fairly high occupancy rate (91.45%). In the coming time, the attraction of investment into the province's industrial parks will change in a specialized, ecological, and smart direction to create new attraction. Therefore, existing and new industrial parks need solutions to enhance competitiveness and attractiveness to take advantage of increasing demands.

According to Nguyen Trung Tin, Head of the provincial Industrial Park Management Board, Binh Duong is planning for the 2021-2030 period with a vision to 2050, and is expected to continue new investment and expansion of the existing industrial parks but aiming for higher standards in science and technology, environmental protection, and industries that bring high added value and meet the increasingly strict standards of international investors. Currently, industrial parks in the province are also aiming to smartly attract in depth investment and for sustainable development.

Commitment to green investment

According to Lego's expectations, a huge factory on an area of 44 hectares will officially come into operation at VSIP 3 in 2024 as one of the first factories in the country that will meet 100% electricity demand from solar energy and the first carbon neutral factory invested by Lego. Not only that, Lego and VSIP planted 50,000 trees to compensate for the vegetation cut down during the factory construction process. At this time, Lego is also promoting recruitment to have 100 employees by the end of 2023.

Preben Elnef, General Director of Lego Manufacturing Vietnam, affirmed an opportunity to recognize the positive environmental and community impacts that the Lego Group has achieved in Vietnam, as well as the recognized significant progress of the group in building a modern and sustainable factory.

Boosted by Lego, many investors are also interested in learning about and investing in projects in Binh Duong that are increasingly better quality and greener. Recently, at a meeting with provincial leaders, Rene Piil Perdesen, President in charge of foreign affairs and public policy in Asia-Pacific region under A.P. Moller Maersk Group (from Denmark), said that the group delegation wished to learn more about the province's industrial ecosystem and upcoming development orientation to prepare for a new investment plan on warehouses and large-scale logistics centers to serve long-term operations in Binh Duong.

Rene Piil Perdesen added that Maersk Group is making efforts to minimize impacts on the environment. Therefore, the group commits and focuses on sustainable development activities, creating values for the community on investing in Binh Duong.

Following closely with Decree 35 of the government, in the coming time, the construction and development of Binh Duong's industrial parks will be more intensive. From 2020-2025, focus is on implementing a science and technology industrial park with an area of 400 hectares in Bau Bang district. At the same time, plans are researched to upgrade and convert existing industrial parks into supporting industrial parks for ecology, innovation, and industrial - urban - service in accordance with the new orientation of Binh Duong city in 2021-2030 with vision to 2050.
