Abundant water resources

According to the Department of Hydraulic Works, the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, clean water is an indispensable part of human life. Therefore, developing a clean water supply network in rural areas of Binh Duong not only helps people avoid diseases related to the use of poor-quality water but also contributes to the sustainable exploitation of groundwater in rural areas of the province.

Currently, Binh Duong's water supply comes from two main sources of groundwater and surface water. Groundwater mainly consists of fresh water with five main aquifers, including four porous aquifers and one fractured aquifer. The total potential groundwater extraction capacity in the province is about 2,180,000 cubic meters per day night, equivalent to about 797 million cubic meters a year.

Regarding surface water, the province is surrounded by three major rivers of Saigon, Dong Nai, and Be, along with one intra-provincial river called Thi Tinh. In addition to river water, there are also seven reservoirs in the province with a total useful capacity of up to 1,138 million cubic meters of water, providing abundant reserves for exploitation and use. Among them, Phuoc Hoa and Dau Tieng reservoirs are inter-provincial reservoirs under the management of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development.

Currently, there are three clean water supply units in the province. Binh Duong Environment and Water Joint Stock Company operates seven water supply plants for urban and rural areas with a total designed capacity of 450,000 cubic meters per day night. The provincial Center for Investment, Operation of Hydraulic Works, and Clean Rural Water manages and operates 31 centralized water supply projects and connects rural areas in 30 communes across five districts and towns in the province. Thuan An Water Joint Stock Company produces and sells about 160,000 cubic meters per day night of clean water.

100% hygienic domestic water use

Binh Duong has 29 out of 41 communes meeting the criteria for advanced new rural areas, and currently, the rate of rural households using hygienic domestic water reaches 100%. Among them, the rate of households using clean water meeting national standards is 96.5%, an increase of 2.8% compared to the same period last year, equivalent to 98,698 out of 102,281 households.

Previously, people in Lac An commune of Bac Tan Uyen district lived in a situation of lacking clean water for daily use, mostly relying on traditional wells and boreholes that were not hygienic. When the local authorities recognized the importance of clean water for the people and achieved the national target of building new rural areas, the commune requested relevant agencies to invest in upgrading and expanding centralized water supply projects, increasing the rate of full and equitable access to clean water for rural residents.

"Since the implementation of clean water projects, it has contributed to improving the quality of life for the people of Lac An commune and has also changed the perception of rural residents regarding the significance and benefits of using clean water and maintaining environmental hygiene," said Dang Quyet Thang, Deputy Chairman of the People's Committee of Lac An commune.

To date, Lac An commune has a centralized water supply project with a capacity of 1,000 cubic meters per day night, providing water to over 2,000 households, reaching 100% of the total households in the commune. The water is pumped from the river, treated, disinfected to meet the quality standards set by the Ministry of Health. The water supply to residents is ensured without interruption.
