The worry of consumers

At weekends, the markets, supermarkets and commercial centers in the province become bustling, especially in densely populated areas of Di An city, Thuan An city, Thu Dau Mot city, and Ben Cat town. In addition to taking advantage to buy consumer goods early, businesses and store owners also increase the transportation of goods to serve consumer shopping needs. Therefore, it is forecast that as the lunar New Year approaches, the items people often use such as wine, beer, confectionery, and food will by breaches of many people through illegal importation of goods of unknown sources or origin from foreign countries be poured into the domestic market for illicit profits.

This is also the problem that worries consumers, especially at the peak of the year. Le Thi Hai, a resident of Lai Thieu Ward, Thuan An city, said: “I am not sure how to recognize real and counterfeit goods, so on buying consumer goods, I often go to a familiar and reputable place. However, not all sellers we could know, it is completely possible to buy fake and poor quality goods in the context of widespread goods in the market.”

Currently, the network of markets, supermarkets, shopping centers and convenience stores in the province is being developed strongly. In addition to the units that meet the clear requirements on the origin of goods, there are still shop owners who are willing to import poor quality goods for trade. Therefore, the quality of goods makes people quite confused. Nguyen Thi Van, a resident of Phu Cuong ward, Thu Dau Mot city, said that her family often buy things at the market, so it is impossible to control the quality of the goods. At the end of the year, the hope that the authorities have better input control so that people can feel secure when shopping and using goods.

The intensified inspection

In 2020, due to the impact of the Covid-19 epidemic, all sectors and levels including the provincial market management sector have made many plans for inspection, surveillance and blocking, so the transportation of commodity for trading has been purified from trade frauds.  Accordingly, cases related to rotten pork warehouse, Adidas-branded fake clothes, shoes, cigarettes, poor quality masks among others were promptly detected and sanctioned by the authorities.

Tran Van Tung, Acting Director of Binh Duong provincial Department of Market Management, said that since the beginning of the year, Covid 19 epidemic has been complicated making the need to use essential items for disease prevention and control such as medical gloves, masks, antiseptic water etc. increase suddenly. In Binh Duong, the recycling medical gloves in large quantities from used materials has showed signs of being mushroomed in hostels and factories for rent, leaving the risk of easily spreading diseases. In addition, the situation of not listing prices and manipulated prices of masks and essential foods at to high prices has also occurred. People called the authorities in a very frustrated mood due to the unreasonable price increment as mentioned above.  “The hotline of the Department of Market Management has received hundreds of calls. We have directed the Market Management Teams to promptly verify and strictly sanction the violations.  It can be said that although the market management force and functional sectors have made a lot of efforts in the inspection and handling of violations, the results achieved have not commensurate with the complicated developments in the market,” said Tung.

Tung also informed of large sums of goods being smuggled to follow the increasing demands of tobacco, confectionaries, drinks, clothings, cometic, etc. Those illegal smuggled goods are not only displayed along the sidewalks but also on online stores, traditional marketplaces, and even at deluxe commercial centers under sophisticated covers.

The leaders of market management forecast that in the coming time, the commercial activities in many places in the province will be very hot. At that time, the commercial frauds will develop complicatedly, especially the production and trading of counterfeit goods, poor quality goods, and cases of food safety violations related to people's health. In order to strictly manage and handle the violations, in the last months of the year, the provincial management management has been urgently involved in proactive management, inspection and control of the market according to the assigned functions and tasks.

In addition, the market management also coordinates with the functional sectors to focus constantly on implementing the 7 major tasks.

“Of the tasks, we shall gather forces and strengthen professional measures to firmly control the area by regularly reconnaissance and supervision of objects, production lines, transportation and the trading of illegal goods.  At the same time, we shall closely coordinate with agencies such as the Department of Industry and Trade, the Department of Taxation, the Department of Standards, Metrology and Quality, and the agricultural sector to strengthen inspection, control, detection and strict sanctions on actions of proposing unreasonable prices, speculation and hoarding of goods to destabilize the market and harm consumers' interests,” Tung affirmed.
